Those NY Times articles are really interesting to read, but many times very inaccurate.  It's fascinating to see the quality of the information coming out of Russia during many of these events.

Also, does anyone know what happened to Stolypin's dacha after the assassination attempt?  Was it taken down, or repaired?  Is it still there?  I'm going to be spending several months in St. Petersburg soon, and I'll have more than enough time to see all sorts of sights!  This would definitely be one of them.

I do not know what happened to the house after the bombing. I found a picture from circa 1910 that shows a monument that was placed at the site of the bombing. I'm don't know if it was placed on the grounds or on the actual site of the house.

rgt9w, thank you so much for this extremely  informative thread. The newspaper articles of the day and the pictures  put the chaos of the assassination attempt in historical context. The articles and pictures convey the tragedy that hung over the Stolypin's and the entire Russian Empire.

Once again, those photos are great.  However, I tried to use that website and after a few searches it just stopped working for me.  I found some interesting photos of Rasputin (one photo was apparently of two of his nieces) but after a while it started to not let me do anything.  Do I have to be registered or something to use this website?  It seems like it would be a great resource.

Hi Darkone,

The site with the photos is great, but like you pointed out the search feature does not work very well. Usually, I select a year and browse page by page. I've not had great luck just searching for a specific topic.

I know at least one of his daughters wrote her memoirs. I believe she fled the country after the revolution. I have more on this if I can find the book again in a out town library. I would guess all or most of the family fled the country after the revolution. I can't see someone with the last name Stolylpin lasting very long under communism.

The book is "Reminiscences of my Father Peter A Stolypin" by Maria Petrovna (Stolypina) Von Bock. I looked through it and it seems like a good Maria's eye view of the period. The Amazon.com reviewer liked it too. I think some people who use this site will like the book too. On Maria's family:
Mother died in France in 1946.
Sisters:
Olga killed by the Bolsheviks in the Ukraine January 1920
Aleksandra lived in France post revolution
Elena live in Rome dies 1985
Natalia dies in Nice france 1949
Brother Arkadii live in France dies 1990

This is according to the postscript in the rear of the book

Two other books on Stolypin of note:
Peter Arkad'evich Stolypin Practical Politics in Late Tsarist Russia Mary Schaeffer Conroy
P.A. Stolypin Abraham Ascher

In Maria P Von Bock's book she mentions moving and living in California after WW II. Rasputin's daughter Maria also lived in California. I wonder if those two met?
