Sarushka -- what a wonderful idea!  That Laura!

I was able to "flip" the "Romanovs Revisited" but the other ones are asking me for a password for your photobucket account.

Much thanks to you and Laura!

I can't access any of them and keep getting a request for the password.... :( :'(

I couldn't go into it or the main site either for a couple of days before. Luckily I can now. Try again here.

Sarah did an amazing job!

I saw many pics. that were new for me - as soon as I be able, I'll buy some books; I am too busy, school is coming, etc.

We can only say her Big thanks!

I have this book. I think it's very cute :) It is a small paperback but the quality of the images is very good. Some nice pics of GD Ella,Ducky or Olga of Greece ;) quite lovely edition. Great to have another album that deals with the extended family not just Naotmaa ( like  Camera and the tsars and Romanovs revisited)Cheers!

I do not want to throw water on your photobucket, but you are violating copyright by doing this.   You can make a photocopy for yourself, but once you share it with others, you have moved into the realm of violating intellectual property laws.   Publishers can take you to the cleaners for this, in all seriousness.  Amazon, for example, makes agreements with publishers to share a few pages - and they pay to do it ...

Hey friends,

As a supplement to maintaining the APTM Book Finder, I've decided to upload interior snapshots of Romanov photo albums into my photobucket account, so people can get an idea of what a book is like before purchasing. This will be a chance for you to flip through a few virtual pages before investing in a book, and hopefully avoid disappointment.

To preserve the authors' copyright, I will post perhaps half a dozen spreads from each book, and they will probably be of medium quailty -- I'm using Mac Photobooth, not a scanner. Here's an example from Charlotte Zeepvat's Camera and the Tsars:

My goal is to give you a feel for the balance of text and photos, and also a sense of who is featured, whether the photos are formal or informal, common or rare.

This is an online version of my personal Romanov library:
http://www.librarything.com/catalog/sarahelizabethii&tag=Romanov

If there is a photo album in my collection you would like to see a preview of, please leave a request here. If a book is primarily text, not photos, I will not post a preview.

When I have a few books' worth of previews uploaded, I'll post a link to my photobucket account and the guest password.

Did you ask Ted Rosvall if you could copy pages from the book ...  He's my publisher as well.

Awesome project Sarushka!
I have always wanted to know what Romanovs Revisited by David William Cripps looked like inside! *has added the book to her wish list*

I appreciate your concern. I'm an author myself, and I assure you I have no desire to publicly violate my colleagues' copyrights. However, is it still a violation if the text from the pages I've posted is illegible, and the images are fuzzy?

I ask because I deliberately chose to post relatively low quality images out of respect for copyrights. These are not photocopies or scans -- they're low-res shots captured by my webcam. (If you click on the thumbnail you quoted, you'll see that the pages are actually mirror-images.) As I said in my initial post on this subject, my intent is not to undermine the book's sales nor take advantage of the authors' intellectual property, but rather to give potential buyers a way to make educated choices regarding books most people are not able to browse first hand.

If there are any publishers or authors who prefer their books not be included in these previews, I'll gladly remove the interior stills upon request. The video flip-throughs I added later are probably more helpful to potential buyers anyway.

It doesn't matter about the quality of the copy -- it is the idea that you are sharing the copy with lots of people.  I understand your reasons why, however, you are still making copies of someone else's work without permission ... you can make that copy for yourself - but sharing it -- now that's the issue goes beyond the Fair Use exemption.
