Please look in Tsarevitch Alexis thread, the topic " the fact his dog survived..." where there is a very sensible last post by Tatianolishka.
It may be interesting to mention that Ortino was a brindle female french bulldog.
There is no GENUINE evidence at this stage that Jemmy was carried down by Anastasia into the cellar room of the Ipatiev House, and no genuine evidence either that there were 2 Ortinos, though some people say the first Ortino ( a present from Dimitri de Malama that Ania Viroubouva brought to Tatiana in late 1914 ) lived only a few weeks and was replaced by a second Ortino in the space of a few days by Dimitri de Malama again.
Personnally, I think there was only one Ortino. Of course Dimitri de Malama had one frenchie named Rajah, Miechen and the Youssoupoffs also had frenchies but pied or fawn NOT brindle, so if there ever was a second Ortino it must have been rather difficult for Dimitri de Malama to provide successivelly two brindle puppies in such a short space of time, especially in days were french bulldogs were not very common in Russia or in Europe ( french and english French Bulldog Clubs founded in late 1890s/early 1900s, it was still in 1914 a fairly " new " breed ).
