As far as I know Anastasia had him with her during the execution. It´s also rumoured that the dog was "guarding" the dying Olga. Then it was killed.

Hi Charlie,

A search on "Jemmy" or "Jimmy" will probably get you the information you're looking for. AGR Bear also maintains a long thread of link to information about the imperial family's pets.

I have also read he was massacred  on 16/7th july 1918. And Anastasia carried down to that cellar room.
But, I agree with Sarushka. Look at 'Imperial Pets'  ;)

Jemmy (not "Jimmy") was not a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.  The spaniel was Joy, Alexei's dog who survived. Jemmy was a French bulldog, given by Anya Vyrouybova, and was killed in the courtyard of the Epatiev house as they were carrying the bodies out of the cellar.

I know that Anya gave the dog to Tatiana but Anastasia took care of it and played with it but I've never heard of Jemmy being a French Bulldog. How is that possible? The only bulldog I've heard/seen were the ones owned by Tatiana (Ortino). The pictures with all the dogs together show Jemmy as a very small spaniel-looking dog. I've read that it's legs were so small it had to be carried on stairs. There is also a picture of Jemmy's corpse after they found it and it is not a French Bulldog.

My mistake, sort of. The first Jemmy was a Japanese Chin, looks like a bulldog with floppy ears.  The second jemmy was a King Charles Spaniel, he was the one killed in Ekaterinburg.

Two Jemmys, two Schvybziks...there was only one Ortino, right? *crosses fingers* No wonder I can't keep track of these animals.

Please look in Tsarevitch Alexis thread, the topic " the fact his dog survived..." where there is a very sensible last post by Tatianolishka.
It may be interesting to mention that Ortino was a brindle female french bulldog.
There is no GENUINE evidence at this stage that Jemmy was carried down by Anastasia into the cellar room of the Ipatiev House, and no genuine evidence either that there were 2 Ortinos, though some people say the first Ortino ( a present from Dimitri de Malama that Ania Viroubouva brought to Tatiana in late 1914 ) lived only a few weeks and was replaced by a second Ortino in the space of a few days by Dimitri de Malama again.
Personnally, I think there was only one Ortino. Of course Dimitri de Malama had one frenchie named Rajah, Miechen and the Youssoupoffs also had frenchies but pied or fawn NOT brindle, so if there ever was a second Ortino it must have been rather difficult for Dimitri de Malama to provide successivelly two brindle puppies in such a short space of time, especially in days were french bulldogs were not very common in Russia or in Europe ( french and english French Bulldog Clubs founded in late 1890s/early 1900s, it was still in 1914 a fairly " new " breed ).
