Not very many people know. I tell people I am interested in history,
Such as the Romanovs, the Holocaust and such...and they are fine.
Only really my famil and my boyfriend know of my interest of the Romanovs,
And all the research and whatnot I do about them...my family doesn't care
Anymore, as it begun when I was ten and they got over the fact of it all,
And my boyfriend thinks it's interesting...not as much as me, but he listens to me.

By now, my friends have learnt to just nod and say yes when I come in and am talking about a new photo or something that I've found.

The best reaction (in my own personal opinion) that I ever got to my interest in the Romanovs was one Christmas, after I'd just recieved another multitude of Romanov-related media and my elderly grandma asked me what one of my books was about. I told her it was about the execution of the Romanovs and was mentally preparing how to explain who the Romanovs were, 'cause bless her, she memory isn't all what it used to be, but all I got was a sad shake of the head and: "Those poor girls..." in obvious reference to OTMA. I felt like bursting into conversation about it, but I left it where it was; she's very emotional (I think she gets all eyed-up at Gone with the Wind) and I didn't want to impart my knowledge of their wonderful life and tragic end on her for that reason.

But of course, when I go on a rant about how historically inaccurate some of the films are or about how books have labelled a photo of Tatiana as Anastasia, I get the usual 'WIERDO!!!' look from my brothers!!!!

Oh, and my mum complains that I have more photos of the Imperial Family on my computer than I do of my own!!!

LOL, but in our defence (well, mine at least), my family have had NO WAY near the amount of photos taken of them that the Romanovs had!!!

I was at a formal dinner one night and mentioned my interest in the Romanov's. One woman, a teacher, began a complete degradation of Nicholas and his family. She went on and on about how they built Russia by completely abusing the lower class and stealing from them, etc. I chimed in that she didn't seem to mind living in a country that was built on slave and child labor and abusing the immigrants. She closed her mouth after that.

My parents don't really care much, though my mom finds in a bit weird that I should be interested in Russian royalty.  ;) My sister actually is a little inerested and likes to look at all the photos I have saved. She almost can name who each girl is. :D

Good for you Charley.

Me I just hid away in a dark room with books as a lad. In those days it was mainly Nicholas and Alexandra and later the file on the Tsar. My reading caught up years later with everyone else here. Don't really mention it much myself and I think those who know think of it is a historical version of a computer geek.

A historical version of a computer geek.

Hahaha... yep, that's definitely a good word for it.

My entourage thinks Germany is a beautiful country, but most find the German language ugly.

I don't really talk of the Romanov Family with my friends, because they are my age (and most of people aged sixteen are  not interested by History), and I think if they know how much I loved them, they will think I'm crazy. And I don't like when someone judges one of my hobbies with no respect.
And when someone discovers that I like the Romanovs, this someone asks why and I don't know what to answer because there's no reason, I like them, that's all.
I only told one friend about them and she thinks it was weird and it seems that she thought it was not interesting at all.

My little sister saw few times searches I do about them. And she got upset by that. She always says "The Romanovs are dead. What is so interesting about them ?".
She thinks that's stupid.

The exact same thing happens to me, Olga.I don't talk to anyone about the Romanovs unless they ask me something about them.I have pictures of the Romanovs in my binder and I never put them on the front cause everybody always puts pictures of their friends and family and they think it's weird.Liking history when you're in middle school is hard, you can't have a good conversation about history with anyone.I wish I could meet someone like you guys here at the AP Forum.Do any of you ever wish you could meet someone with your same love of history?
