Kamlowsky, here is what it says about St Barbara on the Russian orthodox saint website:

St. Barbara - December 4th
Troparion (Tone 8)
Let us honor holy Barbara, Destroying the snares of the enemy, she escaped from them like a bird with the help of the Cross as a weapon.

Barbara was beautiful and intelligent. Her wealthy father kept her like a treasure in a tower, in Heliopolis, Egypt. One time, when her father was out of town, she ventured out of the tower and met some Christians. She immediately embraced the Christian faith. When her father found out about her faith, he beat her and turned her over to the governor of the city to be tortured. Another woman, Juliana saw her faith and took her stand for Christ with Barbara. They were both tortured and killed; Barbara by her own father. The same day, lightning struck her father's house, killing both him and the governor. She suffered in 306.

And here is an icon with her image (along with St Catherine, I believe that B is on the left):

Thank you, Helen and Bluetoria for your input. The icon is so exquisite. The colors are vibrant and breathtaking.
I did some reseach and I believe St. Barbara is also the patron of artiliary. Fire from the sky. Maybe it had some significance with the military forces that Nicolas led.

I'm going to this exhibit tomorrow and I honestly can't wait.  ;D (Well I've been waiting for this forever actually) I actually had to beg my dad to drive me to Cincinnati. I'm leaving today to go there.

I'll provide my feedback for it when I come back.  :)

The Cincinnati exhibit is incredible, although the gift shop was a bit of a disappointment.  Mostly china dogs and teapots from Russia, but I haven't figured out what they have to do with the Romanovs.  Oh well ...

There is one piece of art that was amazing.  It's a very large oil painting called "The Grand Dukes Having Tea at Tsarkoe Selo".  But it wasn't pictured in the catalog that was sold.  Does anyone know where a copy of this might be found on the Internet?  It's a beautiful piece.

Oh, I know!  I think it was a bit sad...

Was it the one were there were three or four of them, on a deck, or is that a different one?

That's it exactly!  There were three or four of them (I know Pavl & Serge were two of them).  They're on a very fance ornate deck-type of porch.  Lots of red in the painting.

Well, it ends the first of May, I believe.  Do you live very far away from Cincinnati?

Don't worry, it's going on tour anyway, so you can just follow it until your boyfriend gets tired of your pleading! ;D

Thanks Robert & Shvibzik,
Hopefully we can go before it leaves Cincin, as I understand this is it's last stop before going home to Mother Russia. This is now the 5th time he's put it off for some reason or another. I had made plans to go since NJ, and something always came up on his end. I've come to the conclusion that I am going to go on my own by bus. It's a 10 hour drive by car, and 15-18 by bus. But it's worth it! *hugs*  ;)

I got to see the exhibit this past sat.I thought it was just amazing. The gift shop left much to be desired, not a big selection and what they did have seemed way over priced to me.

But the exhibit was truely a wonder. So many beautiful treasures to behold. The letters, photo albums, linens, pictures, furniture and omg the paintings and everything else.Words just cannot describe how happy I was to see all of these wonderful things.

This exhibit just makes me appreciate this website and all the hard work Bob,Rob and everyone else has done
all the more. The whole time is was there I was thinking about the vast amount of knowledge Bob has on the Romanovs and all the things he has seen.

It was an experience I will treasure for many years to come.

Don't knock on Death's door....ring the doorbell and run. He hates that.:D

Laura, maybe you can take the Amtrack? It is faster and a lot more comfortable.  And they often offer student discounts, soit may be very affordable - you should look into it. I am not sure if Amtrack operates fro Toronto, but if you can get down to Buffalo, you can take it from there. Depew station (a Buffalo suburb) has free parking for your car and it's pretty safe to leave it there for a while. I used to take Amtrack from there home to NYC and would leave my car there for days.
Anyway, you should just go on your own before May, that way you will definitely make it there without depending on anyone. I think it will be worth it, it's the next best thing to going to Russia, you will love it. Good luck and let me know if you need help finding out more about transportation.
