In England often parents are not allowed to take photos of their children at sports days, school plays etc in case the photos fall into the hands of pedophiles. Whilst I have no problem with protecting children from those who may harm them I do not see why parents cannot have photos of events like these without being arrested as some have been, like the couple who took their photos to Boots to be developed and were arrested for possession of indecent material.
I once worked on a case where suddenly the Officer started asking questions of my Client in interview about the photos of the children in frames in my clients house. When I intervened to demand to know what was going on I was told that they, the Police, had a public duty, said with a straight face, to ask of the Client who lived alone and they wanted to know who the children were and why the Client had photos of them. After I had stopped laughing we told the Police that they were the Client's children and to mind their own business, which the Police did not take kindly to as I recall. They then asked about a photo of a nude child on a harth rug who turned out to be the Client as a baby. The horror of this is that the Police were serious and it was only a compliant form me to the senior officer in charge that brought this line of questions to an end.
I may be English but I think the country has descended into lunacy when it comes to children.
