« on: July 26, 2008, 06:25:11 PM »
Does anyone have the photos of the 1991 skeletons from the mass grave, laid out on tables as each person? Thanks.

Nope, but I've got plenty of the skulls and a couple of the pit grave - let me know if those would be helpful.

I have a schematic of the remains, but I don't think I have any photos of ALL of the remains.
I can send it to you, if you wish.

From the drawing of the bones it gives the impression that all of the bodies except for the Dr went in face up and only the Dr went into the grave face down. I wonder why that was?

True it might also explain why he is on the edge of the grave slightly away from everyone else.

well thats what think. even now we've found the remaing bodies its a shame we still don't know which one belongs to who ( well in the case of Tatiana,Maria & Anastasia)

I think it is only Marie or Anastasia that there is a question about. Olga and Tatiana are accounted for so far as I know.

There is still disagreement between the two teams of scientists, and not just regarding who was missing from the 1991 grave. They also disagree on the identities of skeletons #5 and #6.

According to the Russians:
3= Olga
5= Tatiana
6= Anastasia

According to the Americans:
3= Olga
5= Maria
6= Tatiana

This is why I keep saying that it would be pretty much impossible to determine which one is which when the remains are close in age. Scientists can never pinpoint the age from any remains exactly, or even as close as a couple of years apart (unless it's a very young child perhaps), because in biology nothing is that exact. Two different people can develop at a different enough rate, so there is always something like a six to ten, or sometimes even fifteen, year range when unknown remains are identified in forensics... Which, in the case of the grand duchesses, presents a problem when trying to figure out which is which... If they had their confirmed individual DNA fingerprints, they would be able to know with 100% certainty which one is which, otherwise they can only take educated guesses and say, "most likely this one is Tatiana, and that one is Anastasia, based on [whatever]", but they can't - nor should - say "this one is definitely Tatiana, and this one is definitely Anastasia".

True and I agree it is a shame that we do not have the individual DNA to ID each person individually with 100% certainty. If there was enough of the skull left they could do facial reconstruction from a cast which might help a little. This method is often used to ID unkown corpses here in England.
