I haven't been able to view it anywhere, but I did know of it before now. I found those pictures on Google one day a while ago now and had no idea if the film still existed...seems like it might.

Well, I think why I couldn't find it initally is because that site misspelt 'Mitternacht' as 'Mittelnacht'. By the looks of it, it also has the extension 'Das Ende Des Letzten Zaren'. Here's the (rather pathetic) article on imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0273859/.
Can't seem to find it anywhere else, mind...
And using the English title gets it mized up with National Geographic's one...
Hmmmmmmm...

What do you mean 'found'? In a shop? Online? On TV?

LOL. Do you remember where you found it? Do you have a link??

Is this one (Sphinx - Geheimnisse der Geschichte: Zar Nikolaus II. Die Akte Romanow) the same one or a different one??? I found it on amazon.de: http://www.amazon.de/Sphinx-Geheimnisse-Geschichte-Nikolaus-Romanow/dp/B000058BEQ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1216661451&sr=8-5

Sarastasia, I was looking at the front design and the picture they use is similar to one of the screen caps from a site. I would say the film you found is the same!

Have found another one in the same 'Sphinx - Geheimnisse der Geschichte' series about Rasputin: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00004RT8H?ie=UTF8&tag=schulestudium-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1638&creative=6742&creativeASIN=B00004RT8H which you can buy from the Marketplace on Amazon.

Also, seem to have found a TV listing for 'Die Akte Romanow' - apparently it's on on 24th Aug 2008 at 03:50 (until 04:35) on a channel called Phoenix...
Here's the link thereto: http://www.wunschliste.de/links.pl?s=4675 (You can find it under the heading Die nächsten Ausstrahlungstermine/Folgen, if you can read German!!)

Still no luck in finding a copy though...

After many failed attempts at finding a copy (bar travelling to German to watch their 'Pheonix' channel at gone midnight in late August, I e-mailed ZDF (the German TV channel who originally made the documentary) inquiring into buying a copy, and this is the reply I recieved (translated from German, of course!!):

Quote
Dear Miss James,

we thank you for your interest in this ZDF programme and are gladly prepared to let you have a VHS (or DVD-R) or the named programme. The copies you inquired about must be requested individually. Unfortunately, we are unable to stock the VHS/DVD-R. The costs for this one-off manufacture must be passed onto you.

Should you be intersted in the transfer of the article mentioned below, please send us payment for the amount of 40 Euros.

As a rule, we can make the copy availble to you in approx. 1 - 2 weeks after reciept of payment. Though in isolated cases, it can take a little longer, for axmple, if the material is required in-house.

Transmition date: 11.09.2006
Title: Sphinx  - Geheimnisse der Geschichte - Die Akte Romanow
Transmition Length: 43.0 mins
Price: 40 Euros

We'd like to point out the fact to you, that the manufacturing of a private copy from the original concerns the §53 paragraph 1 originator law, that only allows the copy to be used for your own personal use. The use of the copy for other purposes, for example rental, [public] screening, selling (including internet-auctioning), passing it on to a third party, etc., is thereby porhibited. Editing the copy, shortening, adding to or changing the copy in anyother manner is also prohibited. We ask for your understanding in this.

Yours sincerely,
P.P. Rainer Müller

Heya everyone!!

I posted about this documentary on another thread, but I thought I'd create a separate one as it is due to be aired a week on Sunday!! It's called 'Die Akte Romanow' (trans.: The Romanov File) and is from the ZDF series 'Sphinx - Geheimnisse der Geschichte' (trans.: Sphinx - Secrets of History).

It's being aired on Sunday 24th August from 04:00-04:40 (the time has changed since I first posted it) on the German TV channel 'Phoenix', so if anyone in Germany/Austria has access to this channel, do watch (and if possible tape it so we all can see it too!!) and report back on how good it is!!!!

I've got "Die Akte Romanov" on video, taped from TV ages ago. I don't much remember the contents of the film apart from the fact that I wasn't impressed. The Sphinx programmes are usually sort of sensationalist and superficial, catering for an audience not very familiar with history. It's definitely negligible.
