Tom since you live in the UK,  I suggest look at back copies of Dollshouse World :)  There is is some patterns of clothes that can be glued at the seams. :)

I'm not a great sewer either but Dollshouse World is a great magazine to give ideas :).

........and there was another thread in 'Having Fun' called 'Romanov paper dolls' or something like that, which might help with designs etc. And then there is a book of paper doll cut-outs called 'Nicholas & Alexandra Paper Dolls', by Tom Tierney, published in 1998 by Dover Publications (ISBN 0-486-40372-6). It has several costumes for each member of the family, based on photographs.

Remember though, that they were not dressed for palace life while at Ipatiev. Their clothes were worn and mended. They made do, but were far from glamorous

Yes, of course, good point Robert. I've just checked in Tom Tierney's book and there are some 'everyday' costumes as well as all the finery, so it may still be of some use.
