How about HM herself then?  At the Leibowitz  photo shoot, she was asked to removed the tiara for extra pictures.   She explained it was not that easy, as she would have to go back up to her apartments and change  her hair, as it was attached to the  wig. She did not have that much time available. I think she was annoyed already at the delays as it was.

I got the impression it was more due to "hat hair" or rather "tiara hair" lol.

OK! Now this rumour about the Queen and whether she wears wigs has been doing the rounds for absolutely yonks! It seems to be a bit of an obsession for some! I mean when you google 'Does the Queen wear a wig' the hits stat is 5,600,000!!!!!

Anyway, I do wonder about the veracity and reliability of what Michael Fagan was purported to have seen when he had his little morning chin wag with HM! According to general press reports at the time, Fagan's wife Christine sold the story as an exclusive! Therefore all the details, such as Fagan's apparent remarks about a wig stand, the Queen's short nightie and her body being like that of a 16 year old came from his wife! Perhaps there was what is now called some 'sexing up' of the details in order to make the story a tad more interesting...who knows? But personally I wouldn't take the Fagan via his wife via the tabloids details as gospel by any means!!!!

Anyway, I have found an obituary for one of the Queen's former hairdressers Paul Burgess, which has a very interesting tit bit about the Queen enjoying her hairdresser appointments as they give her time to herself! Now if this is true, it does make me wonder about how you would make a hairdresser appointment with a person who wears a wig as drawn out as that with one who has their own hair coiffured!

http://www.thisisgloucestershire.co.uk/hatherley/news/Tributes-Majesty-s-hairdresser/article-777307-detail/article.html

I don't know much about wigs and how one would dress one when it is on the wearer's head, so I tend to believe that it is the Queen's own hair which is teased and groomed rather than a wig!

Just a few musings!!!!

Margot, my dear...a wig of that quality has to be  fitted & styled. I do not know when she started wearing them,  but I have no doubt that she does now. There is no shame in it.  She looks fine in any case, wig or not, for a grand lady of her age.

Same wig....two different occasions.

Here we see the  natural color of her hair.  She wears the colorful scarves on her private estates [for public appearances] for obvious reasons..

My statements about her use of wigs means no disrespect to HM.  I have an entire album of her use of wigs.  She uses wigs as a convenience.
And yes, her crown, when she has to wear it, is attached to the wig.  It would be most awkward for her to have to remove her wig in public so as to adjust or remove the crown.  Naturally she would have to retreat to her private dressing area to do this as Robert most correctly states in his post.

There is no need to feel embarrassed by the wearing of wigs.  Even macho John Wayne wore one.

Douglas dear, no one is saying there is anything wrong with wearing a wig! (oh, except when you get those middle aged men wearing a ridiculous toupee plonked on there heads!!) It's no big deal. It would just be more appropriate to have some reliable evidence to back up the claim.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't for one minute believe that story of the Queen walking out of the photo shoot.

Eddie_uk, I quote above one of your amusing posts on this site  from 2007.  Not only is the story true, we have the entire event on film. You can believe as you wish but HM actually left the room in a huff when she was politely requested to remove her crown.  It's all on film.  You have a rather long history of denial of anything that does not fit your ideas about HM.

Douglas what on earth has the above got to do with anything? The BBC apologised for wrongly implying that HM had stormed out of a photo shoot with photographer Annie Leibovitz.

Let me post the BBC statement, because unlike you Douglas I like to prove my sources.

"In this trailer there is a sequence that implies that the Queen left a sitting prematurely. This was not the case and the actual sequence of events was misrepresented, the BBC would like to apologize to both the Queen and Annie Leibovitz for any upset this may have caused." so you see I was correct  (nothing unusual there!) to post the above.

With all due respect Douglas, you are doing a "Mr Lowe" i.e. posting an empty statement and unable to give a reliable reference, or even the smallest piece of evidence that might suggest that HM wears a wig, you realise that so you then start clutching at straws.

Oh, so glad I was able to settle that, I just Love being me! :)

What has this issue of the BBC editing the footage to make it appear as though the Queen stormed out on Annie Leibovitz got to do with anything?

Eddie_boy is correct, it was later admitted that footage of the Queen walking along a corridor mumbling about not changing anything actually took place as she 'went' to the photo shoot, not during and not afterward! The producers admitted that editing of a trailer segment had been done that could have easily lead to the false impression that the Queen had stormed off the shoot in a huff, which we all know is entirely untrue!

Yes the Queen was apparently not in the best of moods that day and it is clear from the way she behaved during the sitting that she was rather irked about the time constraints and pressure she was under that day!

Anyway why did we get onto this issue? Is this to do with whether there is a wig in the Queen's lie or not? Personally I don't give a fig if she does wear one or not! I like her coiffure....it certainly beats Queen Beatrix' bouffant helmut any day! Whether her own hair or someone elses!

Eddie you are, as usual, quite right!

By the way, I like all those different shots of the Queen from different years.
