The Queen did not "go grey" as a previous poster suggested.  You can clearly see that her hair is absolutely identical, right down the curls left and right,  in the eight or so recent photos of her Christmas greeting.  That is because she wears a wig and has for several decades.

Check the photos of her appearances in the Diplomatic Receptions recently...same exact wig.

She wears wigs as a convenience.  The mere thought of having her hair done perfectly every day is a total bore to her, therefore she prefers wigs and for her hairdresser to make sure it is properly in place.  She's a very practical lady and even has a great sense of  humor.

You are so right, Douglas. The Queen wears her hair appropriate for her age. Some years ago, when an intruder  came into her bedroom, he noted her  wigstand, so there is no question  she wears wigs.  I would to if I had to do all that she does. I have the highest respect for HM and there is nothing to be  ashamed of.
Years ago, I worked  at a wig shop in Hollywood,  and people might be surprised at some of our clients.

@ Robert:

Thank you Robert for your endorsement of the facts!  I posted the same info on the Queen's wigs last year and I was practically laughed off  the Forum with the ones that didn't believe me.

When the infamous Michael Fagan climbed the walls of Buchingham palace and found his way to Her Majesties bedchamber, one of the main things he did notice was her dressing table which was cluttered with  wigstands and quite a collection of her famous wigs.  This was widely reported in the press at that time.

See citation here:

Finally I feel vindicated!   Does the Queen wear wigs....an unequivocal... yes!
