I just started to learn Russian at a Swedish university named "Högskolan Dalarna". There are a lot of foreign students so the virtual lessons are in English and you really learn a lot! In the end of the course you have to go to Borlänge and take a test but that is the only time you have to travel to Sweden since all the other lessons are virtual. Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post. I've lurked for a while though. I too have been semi-learning Russian and I have a few websites that have helped me. The best by far though is http://spoonfulofrussian.com/ I am such a visual learner. I hope you guys enjoy this site too.

Luckily for me I have a friend teaching me. It is a lot of work but totally worth it. But any site would really do the trick. Trying learning the alphabet first that will take a load off of you.

I was wrong. You do not have to go to Sweden to do the test. You can do it on your computer at home. This course will give you credits...
I really recommend it! It is very good and the teacher is magnificent!

This thread haven't been active for a while but I think I should add that education in sweden is free, so you don't have to pay anything to take a Russian course at university.

Yes, all education in Sweden is free. It gives everyone a chance to get a degree even if you don't have a lot of money. So if you take a course in Russian, you do the course and the test over the internet and you don't have to pay a thing:)

It is very common that foreign students attend courses here in Sweden. We were just two from Sweden in my Russian-group, so if it is expensive to take a course in Russian in your country, just take it in Sweden.

Jebidiah - I think Norway is better than Sweden, even though you have to pay for your education. You earn more money than we do and you have much lower taxes than us. If you earn 100 000 Swedish kronor a month you have to pay 55 000 in tax.

You know there was atime I was absolutely convinced there was no better country then Sweden! It was the time I listened to ABBA all day long :)

Today I think almost everywhere it´s better than in CZ..... But still it´s my home.

About it- two years ago, a boy was with me in classes, he was born in France but lived few years in Czech Republic ... I remember I asked him which country was better. He answered me that he prefered Czech Republic so far (I can't really remember the reasons why ...)So, maybe your country is not as bas as you think...

Hmm i feel so strange to hear you all you want to learn russian.... In this days in Russia is not as in 1918 or other from the early years... Now Russians hate English and America ( I have no idea why lol) thats why they study as second language if i'm not wrong French or German... if Russian man or girl want to study English she/he must find a personal teacher...
And so about you guys want to study russian... Well i must say it will be ALOT hard for you because some of you your native is english (this language has nothing to do with slavonic) Czech people ... hmm... for them it will be little bit easy to study... Sweden... so so i must say... French it will be easy too... But if you are slavonic as i'm for example ( Bulgarian is very close to Russian) it will be very very easy...I'm half Russian and i study english in my school as third language... First is Bulgarian as native (we study only grammatic) second is English... and third for me is Russian...I chose those....

Passing from French to Russian is not easy. I think it's as hard as for English people, because the alphabet isn't the same thing at all.

I'm trying to learn Russian (I'm a French speaker, and I speak fluently English), but it was really hard. I only know 2-3 sentences and understand the alphabet, but, as I said, some grammar rules are the same as the French language and some are like English (just like possessive pronouns).

But, honnestly, I don't understant why Russian people would hate England and America and would prefer France..
