It's interesting, today I went into an antique shop and there was a lovely cabinet card of this couple in a large frame with a golden crown above and also the Prince's calling card and a piece of headed writing paper and surrounded by several brass coins of  Ludwig II...I didn't realise this was the daughter of the duchesse d'Alençon! They sound like a very interesting family.

...well I won't keep you in suspense any longer. I did acquire the picture described above, after all why shouldn't I treat myself??
It's a lovely picture, maybe some members have a clearer one though!
I would love to know the date it was taken!

Oh my pleasure Katenka I'm glad you like, you have so many times posted pictures I  just love!! Pity it's not clearer but I think the glass does not help. I didn't know much about Louise before and now I am keen to find out more about her. I know she was born in Teddington which is very close to where I live!

Thank you Rani, I wonder if the photo is slightly earlier. Alfons looks younger then in the one he has dated 1896. Maybe around the time of there marriage, 1891....I think it's so important to date photos.

This photo is actually well-known. Dominique Paoli published it in her biography "La Duchesse d'Alencon".

Number 3 is most probably Archduchess Marie Valérie.

As far as I remember Dominique Paoli identified the girl as Archduchess Marie Valérie. I didn't have a closer look at the photo and just memorized what I once read. But yes, I also think it's Amélie - although it's a strange combination, because there aren't - at least - known pictures of Amélie and her cousins except for Marie Valérie and the one taken at Ludovica's 80th birthday in 1888.
