Are you sure that's Tatiana? It doesn't look too much like her - such a high forehead. I may be wrong of course.

I know what you mean, Georgiy. I think it is Tatiana, though. Here's one of Maria from the same time:

I believe the family was putting on a play.

Both photos come from the documentary Nikolai i Aleksandra. It has some nice photos of Nicholas and Ella in theatrical costume too, if I'm remembering correctly. I think I got mine from russiandvd.com. (At any rate, there's a thread about it in the film forum).

These photos remind me of a "hazy" picture of the Big Pair that was taken in Peterhof. Both girls are sitting in a flowered chair in their nightdresses, with their hair down. I've never thought Tatiana looks like herself in that one, either. They were probably around 10 or 12 years old. Apparently I don't have that picture in my collection, though.  :(

EDIT:
Found it! (It was in my Peterhof file instead of my Big Pair file  ;))

Sorry that this photo isn't really clear. I think it was taken during the war years perhaps. :P

here it is

Whoa!
that picture kind of scared me when i saw it.
it didn't look anythingn like her, with the full lips and all. but now that i look at it more, it does have a hint of her.
thanks for the one of Marie!
its great

was there one of Olga or Anastasia?

the picture of OT when they were little looks exactly like the same photo, great comparison!

I've never seen one of Olga or Anastasia, but there are literally THOUSANDS of photos still in the Russian archives, so who knows....

There might well be, actually. The Romanovs loved taking pictures. Why were these photos so hazy anyway?

Since the photos are only available on the documentary I mentioned before, these are probably digital pictures of a paused TV screen.

So that is why they are hazy.. but what about that one of the girls you posted-why is that one hazy? I have it in a book, and it is still hazy.

it could have been the camera, or the lighting.. or dirt on the lense.

It's probably the backlighting from the windows. You'll notice everything below the level of the window sills is pretty darn clear.

I think it's more likely to be caused by the film, or the developing process. I know for certain that the difference between modern color and black & white photographs is due to the film -- the same camera can take either kind of photo, depending on what sort of film you load it with. I'm less certain about what causes the difference between sepia tones (brown) and black & white, but I highly doubt it's because of the camera itself.

Very cool! I believe that's the full version of this photo, which came from the Nikolai i Aleksandra documentary:

Which book in the Tsarskii Dom series did your picture come from?

From one about the Alexandra Olga and Tatiana as red cross sisters
