Ann,

I could not agree with you more. I am quite tired of Alicky, although the riddle between Serge & Ella continue to fasinate me. Irene needs a bio but as Ilana told me that much of her papers were destroyed. If a friend could be found with a string of correspondence, we may get something.

yes after i heard and read so much about Ella and Alix and Victoria(well half..) i wanted to know more about Irene. She was always quite..and we thought she have never really hobbys like her sisters but look..she loved horses..animals..she love to read and she liked to play music. She playd duetts with her husband. Im sure she playd on the Piano and he playd his fiddle. I can imange it sound great! mabe she did sang too who knows..

but in the book " the four Gaces" stand all the important and intesting things about the Hesse-Sisters..im sure =) sooon come finally the book..

But about Irene, im sure she has the same big sence homur like ella..the silent and quite site like alix..so..i would hear a another lovestory like from Henry and Irene..and not all the time from Alix and Nicky or Serge and Ella. Sure their lovestorys are great too and i still love them..but i want to know how the love starts to grow in Henry and Irenes lifes..was is love on the first sight ?? and such things..sorry my english is not soo good...=(

im sure Irene have something inside her, which would interrestet us all...its juts just deep deep deep inside her =))

From the looks of it,  Alicky,Ella and Irene burned quite a lot of their correspondence and diaries. It might indicate that they do not want their personal secrets to be known. Only a long correspondence or diary could reveal a person's inner feelings and values.

He look dashing in flying gear. He is more of an action man than his brother Willy.

It's only fair to mention that Wilhelm was limited in what he could do by the withered arm. He seems to have managed remarkably well - could drive a four-in-hand, for example, but driving a car probably wasn't an option (how would he manage gear changing?).

But Heinrich's flying was pretty go-head for the time, especially as he must have been going on 50 when he took up flying - he was born in 1862.

He had inherited Vicky's interest in exploring new things and ideas (she had a copy of Karl Marx's "Communist Manifesto" in her library).

He was an even bigger proponent of automobiles and of auto racing. Quite experimental & dangerous for the time when took it up! He, Irene and Ernie once got a speeding ticket in Darmstadt according to the papers.  My guess would be that it was definitely Henry behind the wheel! :)

It could have been Irene !  ;) Her cousin Sandra (younger sister of Missy & Ducky of Edinburgh/Coburg) of Hohenlohe-Lagenburg was quite a driver too.

Heinrich reminds me a bit of my father. Outwardly very quiet and a bit stodgy, but every now and then surprises you. Keen on carpentry, cars (old-fashioned ones at least) and flying.

Irene burnt most of her correspondence and diaries at the end of WWI as she was afraid it could fell in the hands of revolutionizers.

I think it had more to do with her keeping her life private. She could have gave it to her sister VMH for safe keeping if she so wished.

Indeed. I wonder what kind of relationship he had with his sons. Much has been written about Irene on them.

hmm i think Eric is right..

the princesses was very close to each other, and they did helped each other all the time. sure, Irene wasnt so close with VHM, but they was sisters and they loved each other. Irene was just to quite to find out something which was the reason why she did burned her letters. We only knew about the illness of her sons..the happy Marrige and not more..we dont know about her hobbys..what did she liked and disliked..and we know that she has a good heart, and let build a children-hospital..But if she was so closed like alix or if she has such a big humor like Ella we dont know it..

its very hard to say anything about her...I wonder what she did wrote in her letters..did she wrote Letters to  henry, while he was on the Sea ? what has she done all the time at home..did she teached her sons self (like her sister VHM did) ?
