There was an 8th member of the Imperial family that I did not like.  Her name was Anna Anderson.  She set up a faux  Imperial Court in the United States and vamped around  as if she was Grand Duchess Anastasia.

Her knowledge of the Polish language was perfect, whilst her mastery of Russian was very limited.  That combined with the results of DNA blood test, spelled doom for her image as a person of royal descent.  As we now say on the Internet:....Epic fail.

Nice try though.

I'm not too big a fan of Alexandra. I understand that:

-her childhood was rough
-she knew very few people liked her as empress
-she felt it was her fault Aleksey was ill all the time

But she just seemed haughty. There was her comment that Bloody Sunday had to happen, and she also didn't let Rasputin's family attend his funeral. This was discussed before, and even if it was her right as empress, it's still a nasty thing for her to have done.

This is very interesting. I understand that many of you is not very fond of Alexandra. I, on the contrary, love her. She is my favorite member of the IF. It may sound very silly but she reminds me of myself. I feel connected to her.

I like all members of the IF, but if I have to choose one that I care about less then the others it has to be Tatiana. I really don't know why I don't like her as much as the others. She resembled Alix in many ways so the natural thing for me would be to like her, but I just don't...

Oh my god! I really hope you don't think that I am just like Alix  just because she reminds me of myself and that I feel connected to her. It's just that I also lost a lot of close relatives at an early age and I think I know how she felt. Sometimes I also come across as strict etc... in public just like Alix, this is a big trouble as I am an actress. I have no problem performing, but when I have to be myself I get nervous and insecure and people think that I am cold and indifferent. So, in some ways we resembles each other.

The Empress as a Mother, wife and friend a like but not as Empress for the reasons so many of us know here. Sadly she was a disaster to Russia, The Tsar, her family and the dynasty. Although the blame can only be 50% as we must also include Nicholas in this equation as his rule was not a particularly positive one. If you extend the question Cyril is top of my list anytime.

I am a lot like Erika and Alix, although Alix is my least favorite member of the IF. I too am an actress, and my father died before I was born. I get very insecure in public alone, and I suppose I don't like Alix as much because she never found a way to get past that in herself. She had a loving family and didn't have to worry about much. I guess I get upset because she didn't seem to understand that it could have been worse, and she could have had a much more difficult childhood.

I would have to agree with almost everyone else, I really do not like Alix that much.  She always comes off, to me anyway, as very insecure in herself and haughty.  I don't know if you can be both at the same time, but she always gives me that impression.  Same as Michael HR, I don't think she was right as Empress.  She loved Nicky, which is good for the both of them, but perhaps if he had married someone else, things would not have turned out the way they did.

Hello everyone

I agree with Erika. I like everyone of the IF, and also Alix very much. She was a good mother und wife. And specially her pics as child and young woman are so cute. And she was a very pretty woman, I find her prettier than ella. By the way I dont like tatjana very much. I dont know why.  ;D

Alix is my big favourite. People make mistakes. She was a adoring wife and loving mother. Many people can only dream from such a wife and mother, who is so worried about her family and her people. She was not healty and because of that she did not went very often in public. And thats also the reason why many didn't like her. She was expected to be a public Empress not one who stayed at home. And because she was the oppisite of that what the people expected they payed more and more attention about her manners and the mistakes they make. Making problems bigger and bigger. You must imagine: she was the first lady of the country. In those days Royalty were such as filmsstars and popstars are in our time. You only see pictures of Britney Spears when she wears broken shoe or a too short skirt, but you don't hear about her good intentions and work. So was it also with Alix. The people only want to have something to gossip, not seeing her good work with charity, the sick and the poor. I'm a big fan of Alix.

I've heard very little about the first one. What exactly did she say?

But I have never heard of her to not allow Rasputin's wife and children attend his funeral. Why would she do that?

I wouldn't say . Rasputin's wife was at Pokrovskoe, son worked at one Lazaret, daughters with him lived. Varvara and Matyorna identified him after his murder. I wouldn't say Alexandra didn't allow them to let them to his funreal. Cause it happened quick, and if she did it(I doubt) she did because didn't want to hurt them more.

Yes, and as Teddy said, people make mistakes.

I've heard very little about the first one. What exactly did she say?

She wrote, "The troops alas were obliged to fire, but had they not done so the crowd would have grown colossal and thousands would have been crushed."

I have (gently!) to wonder what people imagine Nicholas thought of this event, when they say that they dislike Alexandra alone in her family for some view she expressed?.....And indeed what they know of Nicholas's views of the oppression of Finland, and the retributions carried out by his government for 1905?

Without wanting to sound flippant, I have to say that people (not you!) who want to avoid being offended by political issues would be better off confining their Romanov studies to the children, and not forming too sentimental a view of Nicholas II.
