Is there a site where I can hear Russian being spoken?
« on: January 08, 2009, 11:52:14 PM »
I'm looking for a site where I can hear Russian being spoken. I just want to know what it sounds like. On Russian news broadcasts, like all news broadcasts, they talk so fast and emphaticly it's hard to get a sense of the sounds of the words and of a feel for what the language sounds like.

I want to hear it spoken a little slower than a news braodcast, in the slower, softer tones that would be used in close personal conversation. Just wondering what it sounds like.

This blog isn't updated anymore, but there's a nice backlog with sound and video lessons:

Also, nose around on iTunes -- there are some free Russian podcasts out there, too.

Another thought.

Go to Frozentears.org and watch this movie.

There are some more films with Russian narration on this page. The voiceovers are relatively fast, but not as fast as news broadcasts.

Fascinating. A very beautiful language to hear spoken, also sounds like a very complex language in terms of pronunciation. I can understand why some here have said it is not an easy language to learn, of course having to also learn a whole new alphabet would also make it more difficult to really learn and fully handle Russian.

Again interesting language.

It would be interesting if anyone here who is fluent in Russian could make an audio of themselves speaking in Russian and post it here to the forum.
