Very pretty. I especially like the home page, and the background you've chosen for the other pages. I think there's also a letter in there from February 1918 I've never read!

Only one quibble: I know livadia.org says that Olga was "often called Olya and Olishka by family members" but I've never seen either of these nicknames used by the imperial family in letters or diaries. According to Raegan Baker's research at GARF, even in their personal notes to each other OTMA signed their given names, not nicknames. However, I have seen seven letters from the empress to Olga that are addressed to "Olenka."

thanks for telling me this then. I based my info on livadia.org's page about Olga, so I thought they're right.

They usually are accurate, but that's one piece of info I've never seen confirmed elsewhere. Next time I talk to Lanie I'll ask her if she remembers the source for that info.

IMO it's very possible - even very likely - that the IF did use traditional Russian diminutive nicknames when speaking to each other, but so far I haven't been able to prove it.

Of course they used demintives - Alyosha, Mashka, Nastya, Olenka, as your nickname is also one deminutive -- Sarushka.  ; )

If you can prove that, I'd be delighted. The only nicknames I've occasionally seen in writing are: Olenka, Tatianochka, Mashka, Masha, Nastya, Nastaska, Nastasya, and Schvybzik/Schvybs. Never Olya, Olishka, Tanya, or Alyosha, as livadia.org claims.

(We should probably start a new thread for this question.)

On Russian websites, I saw Nicholas called his son 'Alesha' which can be translated as 'Alyosha'. I think that way of calling is in Russian nature, right.

Whoops -- I think I actually mean the index page, not the home page -- the one with her name and the three photos clustered on the right.

I've also questioned the nicknames that Livadia.org claims that the children had and were often called. Really, when looking at their letters, I mostly see their actual names being written. I've seen a lot of letters where Anastasia is mentioned by a nickname (like Schvybzik, Schvybs, Nastaska and Caspian Nastenka) but never of Olga, Tatiana, Maria, and Alexei. I suppose I'll have to read more letters and keep an eye out for those nicknames.

But back to topic, you have a very nice website, Justine! I loved reading Olga's letters and look forward to the Goodies section.
