I've seen a pic of Anastasia exerciseing in their bathroom. And of course they played tennis. But other than that I dont know.

same here. they probly took tennis lessons to get rid of all their engery from sitting inside all of the time. thank you dana. i agree some people who knew maria says that she was a spitting image of her grand father and i agree with them. maby it was fat. or it could be muscell. we may never know.

Well, it wouldn't be entirely proper for them to be "athletic" if one examines the time period and their social status. Women were still in that stage of stay home and sew. I wouldn't define either girl as "athletic" given that they could only play tennis for a few months of the year (probably summer, maybe spring) and I'm sure they spent a great deal more time indoors doing "womanly activities". Yes, it is undeniable that Anastasia had energy as a child, but that fades with age. Most children are very active and hyper during their early childhoods and as they grow older, they begin to slow down.

They used to take walks and do things like build ice mountains to sled down, and chop wood, and things like that.

That was when they were in imprisonment. Alexandra said Anastasia had a thick waist before that.

Before that she was active too wasn't she? That was the era that she played tennis in, there certainly weren't tennis courts in Tobolsk! They also went skating and I read they played in the park.

I mean during the war. I think she got LESS active, but not totally idle.

They were only allowed out during certain times and for a certain number of times during the day during their imprisonment, therefore their exercise, I'm sure, was limited. The girls would also alternate sitting with their mother, meaning that they would not all always be able to go out.

And like I said before, they could NOT play tennis all yearround and I'm sure during the winter that they couldn't always go out. It gets very cold in winter in Russia. I don't catagorize building ice mountains as "exercise" anyway.

During captivity they took two walks per day of between 30 and 60 minutes.  One girl would stay behind with Alexandra.

Anastasia was chubby because she was chubby.  One presumes that she would have grown out of it.  No big deal.  It is kind of sad that A and N would criticize their daughters so much, but one hopes it was mostly to each other.

They didn't treat weight and plumpness the same way back then..

i agree i think when you criticize your children your making them feel insecure. i agree i'm shure when she was older she would have grown out of it, people might call it "baby fat"

I think that if Anastasia had a chance to grow up, then I think that she would of grew out of the chubby fase and become very pretty, I think that if she was like Tatiana (small waist and skinny) she might of been one of the prittiest of the four :-/

Personally, I think Anastasia is the least attractive of the sisters and I therefore can't see that happening. She might lose the weight, but I don't see her becoming prettier. Of the four, I think that Marie and Olga aged well from childhood. Tatiana and Anastasia were much prettier as young girls.
