Elisabeth spent the winter of 1861-1862 in Venice with her mother Ludovika and her two children :

Better quality of that one and turn to right:

It's one of my favourite....

@ Ingrid Alexie:
Yes it was a common thing..but she was extravagant.. and she always did what she wanted not how the court wanted it..so there is another reason..
and its an anchor because she loves the sea.. she even once said that she was the female flying dutchman that sails around the seas..:p

@Irina Alexandrovna :
For all i know is that the book is only in german.. and i have it in german so i translated it to english(but only that part..not the whole book :p) so everyone here on the forum could read it..cause not everybody can speak german..:)

That's so nice of you, Madame-Sisi! Thank you for translating it to English (:
I also thank you for the info you gave us in this post I've quoted.

I read when she moved into Schronbrunn Palace. One of the few things Franz Josef did early in the marriage was to visit the Zoo there with Sisi, knowing how much she loved animals.

What was the name of Elisabeth's first horse and the groom who taught her English?

All I know about her parrots was that she brought three with her from Bavaria (perhaps one was a gift from Franz-Joseph??) when she came to Vienna to marry Emperor Franz-Joseph. She was often depressed in the months following her marriage and spent a lot of time in her apartments in the company of the pet parrots. In late June 1854 Archduchess Sophie wrote to Franz-Joseph as follows: "I believe that Sisi ought not to concern herself so much with her parrots. If a woman is always looking at animals, particularly in the first months (of pregnancy), the children are apt to resemble them. It would be better if she looked at herself in the mirror, or at you. That kind of looking would please me". (Her first child, Archduchess Sophie, was born on 5th. March 1855).

I'm surprised that they even believed in such superstition.
That may be partly true even nowadays. I saw a lot of cases such that.

It does not surprise me too much, as 150 years ago people were generally far more superstitious than they are today, and as you say, even today there are still some superstitions in evidence.

Cheers,
