Attention "Grand Duchess Ally" and your reply #9:  I believe that you mean that these damask linen dining napkins were made FOR  (not BY)  the GD Olga N.  These are woven on a special machine loom in the "Jacquard weave."  The Russian antiques dealer John Atzbach has a very similiar one  presently for sale on his site for $1,500 (Reference: john@atzbach.com,  Section: "Misc." page #21).  He is an excellent dealer in genuine Imperial Russian and related antiques, having been mentioned on the Forum here many times.  My family has purchased Imperial linens from him before and we are very pleased with the items.     Regards,  AP

I believe you're correct. An image of the same napkin also appears on page 72 of Nicholas II: The Imperial Family, captioned "from the dowry of Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna." They certainly appear to have been woven, not embroidered.

I think this would be somewhat in the category of IF handicrafts. I've seen a photo , which I could never find or post, of a beautiful, complete child's woodworking set that I believe is presently in a museum or possibly GARF. It may have included other little craft tools too. It presumably belonged to the older Grandduchesses  or any of them when they were old enough to handle little tools . Would have liked to see what they made with it..

I have this image; unfortunately, it's in Toys of the Tsar's Children, and I can't scan it without damaging the book, which is itself a rarity. I have been told, though, that the Big Pair did indeed do some minor woodworking in Tobolsk.

Incidentally, on the facing page there is a photo of a kit for transferring pre-printed images onto ceramics and china.

[edited to add: A smaller image of the woodworking kit also appears on page 98 of Nicholas and Alexandra: At Home with the Last Tsar and His Family]

Is there a thread which features photos of things owned by the IF? Anything left in Tsarskoye and Crimea, that's what I mean.
Thanks in advance!

Dear Shaska

Yes, they are some things owned by the family that survived. Such as diaries, toys, the Fabergé eggs, toys etc. I believe somewhere there was a picture of Tatiana and Maria's underpants. :D I'm not sure if these things are exactly from Crimea, but they belonged to members of the IF. Now, the pics are... somewhere in the forum, although I don't know if there's a special thread for that. ::)
