That was her husband so really doesn't count. She seem to get along with Mary Loo & Alice of Athlone, but not very close though...

Marie Louise was chosen by George V to break the news of the massacre to VMH so I imagine there was some closeness there.

Yes. VMH was much an older cousin being the eldest daughter of Princess Alice ( 2nd of QV's children to marry). The only one older I think was Willy (Kaiser Bill) and maybe Charley the brat. All the other cousins are much younger (especially like Ena & Baby Bee).

Eric, please show some respect for Princess Charlotte and stop your obsession with calling her names. She maintained a level of dignity that many in her position of stress and difficulties would have performed much worse.

Well...She was an intriguer and made the lives of her mother (who asked people to ignore her lovely exterior) and her cousin Marie (who remained intrigued by her even though she did her much wrong) and of course she laughed at the back of her frumpy sister-in-law Dona after she joined the fast set in Berlin. Queen Mary was once asked by her cousin who did she disliked the most in the family, she replied "Charley The Brat". The strange thing is that Charlotte was very proud of her nickname and signed it on several of her portraits. So if you do your homework, you will understand there is no disrespect here. She would have loved it.

Yes, Charlotte herself did sign a photo 'The Brat' but I think Herr's point is (and the FA has made this point before as well) the nicknames that were used amongst the royals themselves or by themselves aren't necessarily right to use in the Forum. We've always used nicknames that were common (Eddy, Ella, etc) but the ones that were used strictly en famille tend to rub people the wrong way. I think it's a reasonable request to not use them. Plus it makes searching (as well always encourage people to do to avoid duplicate threads) much more difficult! :)

Danke. Nicely stated.

Inter and intra family emotions and feelings can make a loving situation a pure hell even when the parties are good people. This happens in the best of famiiles as well as the worst. Caddish labels taken for granted can often tend to mislead and unfairly paint a person in a way that is not necessarily fully correct or understood.

Although...Princess Charlotte did not have any descendants that would be upset that their ancestor has been insulted. So that did not apply here in this case, not to mention she died over 100 years ago. It makes all this rather petty and academic at most.

Eric

There is such a thing as ordinary good manners. I for one dislike people referring to royalties by their family nicknames as if they knew them!

Charlotte was clearly a difficult person, but the only reason for referring to her as charley the Brat might be to distinguish her from other Charlottes of Prussia. But that can be done in other ways - for example, Wilhelm's sister Charlotte'.

Still, it's been the desire of those who own and run the board not to use some of the 'cozier' family nicknames. Plus, as I mentioned, it makes using the search feature that much harder for fellow users--and the moderators. We are always encouraging people to use the search feature so as to a) find what they may be looking for and b) not create needless duplicate threads.
