First--welcome! Always nice to see a new user. :)  However, one of the rules of the Forum is:

PLEASE USE STANDARD SPELLINGS OF NAMES AND PLACES. In order for the search function to work best, we ask that standard spellings of Historical names and places be used. Read them here:
http://forum.alexanderpalace.org/index.php?topic=770.0

"Hi guys. With some many people posting now, in order for the search function to work at its best to find information, we will now ask you to use these standard ENGLISH spellings when posting in the forum UNLESS directly quoting a source.  We know that these words can be spelled differently in other languages, but we want the search to return as many results as possible. So, for example, if you spell "Sergei" as in Russian, the search for "SERGE" in English, it will not be found."

(caps courtesy of the FA's original post)

That's why the name should be spelled out with perhaps a well-recognized, not-overly-familiar nickname in parenthesis to differentiate between the myriad of Victorias, Maries, etc... Merely distinguishing them by titles doesn't work when many of grand ducheses/princesses/queens all have the same name (in any language).

They also serve who only stand and wait--John Milton

VMH's marriage was not greeted with universal approval. I read one contemporary believed she was so contempt of the royal system that she chose a husband from the fringe of being acceptable (not by the Hohenzollerns of course).

Was an artist a clever flatterer who painted Victoria highly resembling her grandmother the Queen ? )))

I think of all the Hese children Victoria looked like her grandmother the most (though not as much as some of her cousins). Perhaps indeed the portrait is intentionally underlining the similarity.

Does anyone know of any pictures of Philip with his grandmother? I've searched on here and can't find any.
Thanks

I found this while searching the web...it brought me back to this site:

http://forum.alexanderpalace.org/index.php?topic=12344.450

Scroll down just a bit and you will see a group shot, which includes Princess Victoria and Prince Phillip as a boy.

Берёзы севера мне милы,—
Их грустный, опущённый вид,
Как речь безмолвная могилы,
Горячку сердца холодит.

Wow, thanks for sharing that one! I’ve never seen it before and love coming across rare photos. Pinterest can be quite satisfying in the “rare photos” department.
