In Post #2,  nena asked "But what would happen during WW2?"

I have wondered what WW2 would have been like had one of the Allied forces been a strong Tsarist Russia instead of the Communist Soviet Union? I think Hitler would have still come to power in Germany much as he did, and there would still have been a WW2, but there would have been differences.

How would Nicholas II or his son Alexei II as Tsar have handled WW2? Also it would have made for a very different and much more peaceful postwar world, no cold war between The Soviet Union and The West. As they say about history, change one thing and you change everything.

I wonder about this a lot.
The "change one thing and change everything" I agree with. I think that because of Stalin's industrialization, the Soviets were able to fight the war. I'm not sure how Alexei would have industrialized, so that could mean a lot.
But I think the west would be more open towards Russia, and that my affect things too.

I recently read the last chapter of Romanov Autumn for the first time that talks about Alexei and it discusses what kind of tsar he would have been- it is interesting reading for anyone pondering this question. I really enjoyed it.
