Kaytanka I am not FA, but for what it's worth every time I have seen that photograph of the Grand Duchess on the balcony with the bonnet on it has been labeled 'Marie Nicholaevna'. not Anastasia. It doesn't even look like Anastasia, it looks like Marie. I even thought I remember a caption saying that Alexandra took that photo of her when she was 16 years old.

KayTanka, I was referring to the pic of Marie on Alix's balcony at the Alexander Palace that Jackie3 posted. I thought that was the photo in question.

Hi otmafan,

In some early childhood photos it looks to me as though Maria also had a fringe, although hers was much longer than Anastasia's--such as in the group photo of the girls sitting on the bench which Lanie posted on December 24.

I do know that marie had fringe when she was a little girl, however when she was older she didn't. i meant when she was the age in the picture when I wrote that comment.

So Maria was a Cancer.  What were Olga, Tatiana and Anastasia?  I'm thinking Olga was a Scorpio, Tatiana a Gemini, and Anastasia possibly a Gemini as well?  But I'm not sure.  And what are the traits of these Zodiac signs?

Tatiana's birthday was May 29th, I remember because this is my sister's b-day too. Yes, she was a Gemini....

Tatiana: May 29/June 11, 1897.
Maria: June 14/26, 1899.
Anastasia: June 5/18, 1901.

Because of the differences between the Russian calendar and the one that we go by, Marie appears to be a Gemini on the Russian calendar, a Cancer on ours, but I feel her main characteristics fit Cancer more.  Cancer is a water sign, meaning that they are sensitive, but they are also a cardinal sign, meaning a leader.  Cancers are very family oriented and have a very mothering quality to them, whether they are male or female.  They are very imaginative and creative.  They are also very romantic!!!!
Scorpio is a water sign as well, but fixed (stubborn).
Gemini is an air sign (mental, intellectual) and symbol for Gemini is the twins.  It is a mutable sign (communicator).  They appear at times to be two people in one, which is where the Twins symbolism comes in.  They can appear shy on one hand, but on the other a social butterfly.  They crave stimulation and new things.
