Sometimes fancy backgrounds were painted into formal portraits after the photo was taken, so it could be the same.

Does anybody have photos of Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia or Alexei in a pram? I haven't seen any!

Interesting picture. It looks to me as though the uniform has been drawn onto this portrait of Aleksei. He's very young, yet it appears that he's wearing the St George medal he was awarded in 1915...
