Or at least on a Wednesday or Friday. Still up until about age 7 children aren't expected to fast, and also being an invalid he probably didn't fast as much as others.

Oh, I see, they do that with the younger children in the Lenten time too. I didn't know about that, thanks for filling me in! :)

Again, in honor of the Little One's birthday anniversary:

"Do not fear death, but rather the unlived life. You don't have to live forever, you just have to live."

--Tuck Everlasting

Remember, I will still be here,
As long as you hold me
In your memory.
Remember, when your dreams have ended,
Time can be transcended,
Just remember me.

I am the one star that keeps burning
So brghtly, it is the last light
To fade into the rising sun.
I'm with you whenever you tell my story
For I am all I've done.

Remember, I will still be here
As long as you hold me
In your memory
Remember me.

I am that one voice in the cold wind
That whispers, and if you listen
You'll hear me call across the sky!
As long as I can still reach out and touch you
Then I will never die.

Remember, I'll never leave you
If you will only
Remember me.

Remember, I will still be here
As long as you hold me
In your memory.
Remember when your dreams have ended
Time can be transcended
I live forever!
Remember me.
Remember me.
Remember me...
Hatred – this is a disgusting feeling. Yes, there is sport gambling, there is a striving to win. But to hate someone – this is awful! I think, that first of all you have to learn to respect your rival. -- Evgeni Plushenko

Thy birth was a marvellous wonder, holy Tsarevich Alexei.  As the blest fruit of thy parents' prayers to the wonderworker of Sarov for an Imperial Heir, thy coming meant glory, hope and help was reborn in our world.   Thy Russian people rejoice,  giving God thanks and praise:  Alleluia.

From the Akathist to the Holy Royal Martyrs.   Thanking and praising God for His faithful servant Alexei Nikolaevich, Heir Tsarevich and great passionbearer of the Russian land, on the 101st anniversary of his birth.

I woke up at 5:10 am Eastern Standard Time and at 5:15 (1:15 pm in St. Petersburg, which is the time I believe Alexei was born?) and lit a candle and said a prayer for the little Tsesarevitch, and I hope he is having a wonderful birthday celebrated with his family, wherever they may be in the afterlife.

Vive_HIH_Aleksey : thank you for this very beautiful poem!

Time of birth : Lostfan is right about one thing : Standard Time, as Daylight Saving Time (summer time) wasn’t used in 1904. Although use of Standard Time (with time zones) was gaining popularity around the industrialized world, I’m not sure if it was used in Russia when Alexei was born. Local time (solar time) seems to have still been widely used (maybe one of our Russian friends could find out). If so, according to the 1904 Almanach de Gotha when it was noon in St. Petersburg, it was 10 :08 AM in Paris (9 :58 in London) or when noon in Paris, 1 :54 PM in St. Petersburg. So you figure it out for the USA where Standard Time had been introduced by the railways since 1883, but not compulsory until 1918.

Anastacia : If I’m not mistaken, at 5 :15 EST (6 :15 DST) it would have been 3 :15 DST (2 :15 EST) on the Pacific Coast.

In any case, I guess the most important thing isn’t to find out the exact time of Alexei’s birth but to have remembered it.

To celebrate his birthday, here are two old postcards from my collection, one of the first official photos of the Tsesarevich and a later chromolithograph:
