HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEXEY!!! :)  ;D  :-*

On August 12, in the afternoon,
A tsarevitch was born, not a moment too soon.
Alexei, they named him. Brown hair, blue eyes
He loved blinis, the sun, and watching the skies.
He loved to sail and to climb a tree.
He loved to play tennis and swim in the sea.
This boy by all his family loved,
this little boy was extremely tough.
Sometimes his life was filled with pain,
but before the sun, there comes the rain.
He lived his life the good, the bad,
To make the most of what he had.
He didn't live long, just 13 years.
To think this brings on many tears.
By Bolsheviks, with many scores,
His life was ended in a cellar.
though he does not suffer anymore
He's in heaven having the best birthday ever.

Historybuff, that's a clever poem!

Today, August 12, 2006, is Aleksey Nikolaievitch's 102nd birthday. Happy birthday, Aleksey!

Happy Birthday, Alexei!!

I guess it is odd for an older guy like me to have such affection and admiration for a young man, a boy really, from a bygone era.  But in Alexei, I see a model of someone who faced a demanding life gracefully (boyhood misbehaviors and stuff aside- he was, after all, human and that is endearing, too).  In his few years on earth, he faced an awful and painful illness with a brave forbearance, showed compassion for those who suffered, and met his end with courage and grit (in the end, he fought hard for life).  I consider his example a great gift and I am glad I can say that I admire Alexei Romanov greatly.

Lesha, it isn't at all weird for an older person to admire a young man like Aleksey! He was very brave, and tried to live his life well, despite his illness.

Dear Teen and Preteen girls,

I would like to thank all of my admirers for their best wishes on the occasion of the 102nd  anniversary of my birth. This is just what I have been needing to lift my spirt ever since I was shot repeatedly by the Bolsheviks, partially cremated and buried in an unmarked hole in the forest. Your anniversary wishes are the best thing to happen to me since I was made a Holy Martyr by the Russian Orthodox Church. Please keep looking for me as I do want to be buried with the relatives some day, it is unfortunate that I cannot give you any clues as to where I am since it was dark when they buried me (ask Bear she will tell you all about it).

Your always loving,

Aleksei Nikolaievich

His Imperial Highness the Heir Tsarevich of All the Russias

*Sigh* David, are you so cynical and unhappy that you must mock everyone around you?

As usual you interpret my intentions incorrectly, at least you prove to be consistent with your negative assumptions about me. I was actually doing those persons who write birthday greetings to the dead a favour by having the dead person respond in a positive manner. In a way I was actually enabling their ongoing fantasies and reinforcing their delusions. Probably not the best thing to do with impressionable minds but I just could not pass up the opportunity to cause just a bit of well intentioned of mischief.

David must have been locked in an empty room as a child, and wants us to have the same feelings he had as a child. Emptyness and negative thoughts all around!

Dear Clockwork,

Actually I had great latitude as a child and wandered freely over about one hundred-fifty acres of ponds, pastures and forest. That written, your attempt to profile me with the clarity acquired from Psychology 101 is amusing. Thank you for bringing a smile to my face.

Your devoted friend,

David

Then why are you so unhappy, wanting everyone else to be miserable with you?
