Thank you, "Ilias _of _John", for your contributions on this fascinating, but relatively little-discussed era of history.  Hopefully more people will come to appreciate  this epoch.  An amusing story always comes to mind that personally happened to me:   I have a small collection of Byzantine relics, including silver coins.  I was once in a smaller coin shop and asked if the dealer had any Byzantine silver coins for sale.  He replied that he had none and that they were, at least to him, rare.  Then he asked, " Do you know what is more rare than Byzantine silver coins?    Byzantine silver coin collectors !
