Could the painting be a copy of a photograph?? I seem to remember seeing a similar pose in a photograph somewhere. I do believe the painting is of our present era and not made during the time of the Hungarian Coronation.

I agree completely with you aor, the painting is completely the same than the photo, I
haven't seen any XIX century painting of that style before.

And I forgot to say that there is also another draw of Sissi about herself, I think that is based on
one photo where you can see her back and she is with some ladies in waiting...If you see the draws
one day... Can you post them? I saw them a long time ago, but I couldn't find them anymore

Wow, my English teacher will be upset when I tell her a vain Austrian empress painted better pictures than her.

She should be an artist or actress if she is alive today. She end up being more like Greta Garbo...shunning attention but loving the stage...

Um, I'm still confused why she drew and ox and a freaky-lookign tree.  This is the side of Sissi I never knew.  Still great artwork nonetheless.  I can't really see Sissi being an actress.  What if they put her in Twilight or something?  O0O

Huh??? great artist??? Oh my, the Empress Elisabeth was a rather strange creature, interesting but 'odd'.
She felt she was on the same level as Heine, she simply was not. Most of her poetry is childish and misses the cleverness and 'bite' of those of Heine! She had plenty of time for her doodles, but to say she is an artist goes too far.

If it had not been for Ernst Marischka and the Sissi Trilogy, she would looked upon in history as a strange, willfull creature that was vain and used her beauty to steer and manipulate.

If Sisi was not born royal, she might have had a career on stage. Her beauty itself (like Lily Langtry) would have been enough to attract attention. His eldest brother did end up marrying a stage actress, and another brother a doctor.

But i kind of agree with aor.... Eric Lowe you bit idealize her.. Because her drawings are good but i've seen better...even of people here which are not royal but they drew so good....Drawing hasn't changed much now from one or two Centuries ago..
Empress Elisabeth's life was tragic...she was beautiful i agree but strange in personality... About her poetry...i haven't read it all because it's on German and this language i'm studying now....So i can't comment there....
But i don't think she such superb talent for art

Not really, if you read Zola's "Nana" and Lillie Langtry's whole career was built on beauty alone. Sisi could have been an actress and she does have good taste in clothes. I don't say she was a great artist like Camille Claduel, but she would have some success as a society artist.

Yea but listen to yourself...you always say she must been an actress because of her beauty and give me some other examples and now you say she have great taste in clothes.... To be an actress you must have natural talent...and actors are always bit crazy...she wasn't soo crazy....I never seen photo of her laughing ...only kind of smiling.... she could play scenery... (I've seen other queens and Empresses laughing) So try something else to put where she could be good...she could be good as designer i believe...as you said good choosing clothes.... Because in theatre she won't choose the clothes for her...nothing that she was Empress
