photos during the Revolution/Captivity [*not* NAOTMAA]
« on: September 04, 2004, 09:52:10 AM »
We all know of the photos that were made by the IF during their captivity in their palace, Tobolsk and Jekaterinaburg.

But did also other Romanovs made pictures during the Revolution/Captivity? Such like Mavra, Maria Pavlovna, Xenia, Olga of Greece, Olga A?

And who ever have seen such pictures?

This was captioned 'the younger generation of Romanovs imprisoned at Ai-Todor (Sandro's Crimean estate) but I don't know who they all are. Maybe Ella or Lanie or Lisa can name them all for us;)

Well , I recognize Theodoroe Alexandrovich on le left (with his sister Irina? ???).. .and on the right with his wonderfull little hat ( ;D), Felix Yusupov!...then, it's more difficult!

I wondered if it's not Andreï Alexandrovich on the left with Irina... :-/

Thanks, Lisa. I was thinking I saw Felix and Irina in there, but was confused since they were not imprisoned with the rest (due to Irina's morgatanic marriage) and were not allowed contact with the prisoners ???

You're welcome! :D
But are you sure about the morganatic marriage of Irina? I never heard about it... Felix and her were prince and princess by birth, weren't they?  ??? :-/

Oh yes, it's in Lost Splendor. Irina had to sign away any 'rights' to marry Felix. The Yussoupovs were high nobility, and they had ruled the Crimea many centuries ago but were not royalty (same reason I doubt the Georgian royal family's royalness and thus Maria V.'s claim)

In Lost Splendor, Felix describes how they were allowed to go free, and one of Peter Nikloaivich's daughters who had married Prince Orlov was also allowed to go, as was Olga A. and her family. All the rest were held prisoner. Felix and Irina were not allowed contact with the prisoners but when they walked the dogs at night her brothers used to jump up on a rock wall to see her until they were caught. Then they were allowed to send little Bebe in with letters inside her coat and get letters out, but Felix, Irina, Bebe Zinaida and old Felix were at the Yussoupov estate, not Ai-Todor. One of the sympathetic guards often visited them trying to find a way to help the captives. It's all in Lost Splendor and it's very interesting.

Lisa, do you have the picture of Nikolasha, his brother, their wives, Dowager Empress and other older people on board the HMS Marlborough? I saw it in a book but not online. Just asking since you have such a great collection! :D
