Here's another list of ten Royals... :-)

- George Brett
- Brett Saberhagen
- Hal McRae
- Amos Otis
- Darrell Porter
- Willie Wilson
- Frank White
- Lorenzo Cain
- Alex Gordon
- Dan Quisenberry

Erik

I don't recognise any of these people.

Please explain.

For a civilised Royal dinner party:
1) Tsar Alexander III (not nearly so boorish as often suggested)
2) Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone
3) Boris III of Bulgaria
4) Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna
5) Alexander of Yugoslavia
6) Princess Marie Louise
7) HaakonVII of Norway
8) Sophie of Greece
9) Arthur, Duke of Connaught
10) Berengaria of Navarre (opportunity to find out what marriage to Richard I was really like!)

And the dinner party which will be a disaster because of all the big egos:
1) Napoleon
2) Peter the Great
3) Henry VIII
4) Kaiser Wilhelm II
5) Ivan the Terrible

Nice  list (and nice sense of humor), though I'd probably take a pass on a dinner party with them.Or at least with all ten of them at once.

Ann, if I may make so bold as to answer for Erik here, at least as to the facts of his list.
These are very good players(or former ones)  for the Kansas City (Missouri) Royals, an American professional baseball team, well known, at least in the States. As it happens they recently won the WOrld Series, the American national pro baseball championship. Very roughly like the English Premier League championship.I'll leave it to you to apologize to the better English football clubs.

Many thanks.

It shows how little I know about baseball that I didn't recognise a single name.

Ann, that "apologize" in my last sentence was written as, and should have been, "analogize". I hope it makes more sense and is more polite than it came out. I posted from my Kindle which has an autocorrect system for spelling which too often functions  to "auto-err." It's very stubborn and has the vocabulary of a twelve year old .

Not to worry. The sentence did read a little oddly, but I thought it was a joke that I didn't get!

Back to dinner parties. How about a dinner for warrior monarchs:

1) Richard I of England
2) Louis XI of France
3) Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden
4) Albert I of Belgium (determinedly hung on to a very small corner of Belgium)
5) Charles XII of Sweden
6) Edward I of England
7) Peter the Great
8) William III of Great Britain
9) Alexander of Yugoslavia
10) Edward III of England

I am tempted to add Kaiser Wilhelm II to demonstrate to him that he was a play-actor when it came to fighting!

No Friedrich the Great II of Prussia?

Witnessing an ecounter over dinner between Wilhelm II and Willliam III would be extremely interesting! Billy was perhaps everything Willy wanted to be, from invader of Britain to champion of the Protestant cause, including homosexual, some would say!
Берёзы севера мне милы,—
Их грустный, опущённый вид,
Как речь безмолвная могилы,
Горячку сердца холодит.

I realised after I had posted this that I had left out Friedrich the Great! How could I have been so clueless?

Of course, it will be most interesting to have the Kaiser meet him, as Wilhelm was very much a Friedrich wannabe.
