Polish speaker needed!
« on: March 26, 2009, 05:57:48 PM »
For the first time in 4 years, I've mysteriously exceeded my monthly Photobucket bandwidth allowance. I suspect direct-linking to my albums by Romanov fan sites may be the culprit, so I'm trying to track down and eliminate links. I came across this page, which appears to have direct text links to albums by quite a few AP members:

http://www.romanowowie.fora.pl/zdjecia,11/wasze-ulubione-zdjecia-carskiej-rodziny,23-15.html

However, I don't speak Polish, so I can't ask the admin to remove the links. Any volunteers?

Thanks, violetta!

I've done some more looking around that forum and found that the main culprit is a very active member named "tatiasza." So far I recognize a LOT of links from nena, clockworkgirl21, and Velkoknezhka Maria's albums as well as my own in her posts.

Personally, I don't mind at all if she uploads my photos to an account of her own and reposts them, but it's not fair to use up our bandwidth by posting hundreds of direct links. I need someone to ask "tatiasza' (or the site's administrator) to stop posting direct links to other people's photobuckets. I would really like the links to be removed, but there are so many that they may not be willing.

Thanks for whatever you can do to help!

Thank you. The more I look, the more familiar names I find: Aliss_Kande, grandduchess42, Eigna, livadia.org, Holly, Justine, koloagirl...

I think she's direct-linking photos as well as text, which uses even more bandwidth.

Basically, it means you've exceeded your monthly "allowance" at Photobucket. A free Photobucket account lets you transfer up to 25GB of data per month -- that's your alloted bandwidth. So every single time one of your photos loads on a webpage, or someone clicks on a link to one of your photos, that amount of data is deducted from your 25GB. The more photos you post, and the more people look at them, the faster your bandwidth gets used up.

When other people post direct links to your photos instead of taking the time to upload the images to an account of their own, they're using up YOUR bandwidth. So every time someone looks at a picture or clicks on a link to my account posted by "tatiasza" on that Romanov forum in Poland, my bandwidth shrinks -- and she's posted hundreds of direct links to AP members' photobucket images.

Does that make sense?

Yes, I think I get it.  So this person is not doing anything malicious intentionally right, they just need to make their own account name, which seems like it would be a lot easier than posting every single one of those picture links?  Thanks for explaining.  It's been so long that I posted a photo that I don't even remember how to do that, plus my computer was infected with a virus, but that's another story.  I just finished watching Marlene Dietrich playing a Russian aristocrat  on Turner Classic Movies.  It was a good movie.

I am in the list too. They need to have their own account definitely.

Probably. I know I did a bit of direct linking before I knew better, but this person has been at it for two years. She could be unaware, or she could be lazy.
