I'm not really fond of Lenin, but I've never seen a joke that coarse.
I mean, he is part of History and monuments should be respected.

Personally, i'm not Lenin's fan too. But i believe this act was made by uneducated person who don't esteem history of the city that bore the name of Lenin. There are a lot of people came from other cities to Spb. Some of them don't want to learn SPb's history, habits and traditions.

I not a Lenin fan either but I agree with that you should respect the history and the monuments that have been put up their, even if you don't like the person that is monument.

I'm not in fact a fan of Lenin either, not at all, but that is not funny. The man is part of History, they should not do such a thing to monuments. He changed history, and believed it was for the better good, and thus one has to respect History, not make fun of it.

Yes, revolutionaries did broke down monuments of the Imperial Regime too, but this is totally different - and even if you disgust the person or what he stands for, one should respect the monuments with respect because they are part of history.

So, would you welcome a monument of a mass murderer in your city, if he was part of its history?
Lenin has done nothing good for our country, and the bad we still have to live with.

Not at all,  I hate the man just as much as you, but I was just trying to be 'kind', to not to offend those who might respect him. But personally I disgust him, I would not even visit his Mosuleum - for it would show by my behaviour how I dislike the man. And if they'd break down monuments dedicated to him, even if he does not deserve them, then people would be just like the revolutionaries. The Soviet Union, sadly, is part of Russia's History and should not be forgotten, people have to know the horror it caused - The Bolshevik's wanted to erase all memory of the Romanov's and I just think that they should not do such thing again. Lenin, and the Bolsheviks, are part of history and therefore should be treated so, no matter how much you dislike the person - but that is just my opinion - as I dislike the man personally myself.

I don't think it's right to compare communists attempting to erase "all memory of the Romanovs" (they weren't trying to "erase" just the dynasty, by the way, they were trying to erase our whole history) and destruction of Soviet monuments. Because if you do, it's kind of like you're comparing, for example, Alexander III (or Skobelev, or Barclay-de-Tolly or some other "monuments") to Lenin. Everything that's happened to people is their history obviously, but not all historical figures are equal. It's like catching a thief and letting him keep the goods he's stolen just because you wouldn't want to do what he did. Restitution is not revolution.

I agree with you completely, that they tried to vanish all memory of the Romanov's, the Empire and indeed tried to change the way of life. But ofcourse that is what I think, since personally I really hate the man for what he did to Russia, but just think one should not do such a thing to any kind of monument, even if Lenin does not deserve it(and IMO he does not at all). I think Russia somehow needs a clear break from the Soviet-era, but one can't forget that there still are people who support the ideas they had - though I don't understand why they support them.

So, if I'm an old Nazi and I still support some of Hitler's most brilliant ideas, can I get some swastika flags returned to Reichstag, because, you know, otherwise you'll hurt my feelings?

By the way, I agree that castrating Lenin wasn't exactly a noble thing to do, but it *was* April Fools, and it gives birds a nice place to gather.

No only you:p

No ofcourse not, I was just trying to say that I will always try to respect how others feel, but it does not mean I like the way they feel - So that goes for both Nazi's and Soiets....

Lenin has done nothing good for our country, and the bad we still have to live with.

Well, as i know, states against the communistic past are very popular in Baltic countries, former members of USSR.
Anyway Lenin is very disputable person. But he only took the power in Russia because nobody wanted to be responsible for the fate of the country after Romanov's abdication.
Lenin has done nothing? Let me remain that it was he who gathered separate russian lands in 1920s during the Civil war. There were many militarymen from European countries, former allys in world war I, who invaded our lands.

By the way, as i heard,  some agreements were celled with Soviet Russia to which Estonia and Latvia at the beginning 1920th years firstly found the legitimate state system and scopes.
Correct me, if i'm mistaken.

What does that have to do with me? I am from Russia, not Estonia or Latvia.

So, you're saying that after Nicholas II abdicated (if he did) Lenin took power?

Lenin has done nothing? Let me remain that it was he who gathered separate russian lands in 1920s during the Civil war. There were many militarymen from European countries, former allys in world war I, who invaded our lands.

Yes, and they lived happily ever after under humane, legitimate and most of all very Russian government.

But they were part of Russia before, so Russia's history concerns them greatly - I presume.
To get back to the joke and its meaning - I can understand that Russian people don't like Lenin, but Mariia, as you said, the joke wasn't noble. To me, that IS the matter.
If those jokers wanted to give a message, there was maybe a more intelligent way to do it.
