I'm away from most of my books at the moment so I can't check for certain, but that photo looks very similar to one that's in The Private World of the Last Tsar.

Also, for good - quality scanned photos, I think Beinecke Library gives many of them from A. Vyrubova's personal albums, also, Jamd.

Thanks, I guess if this turns out not to be from one of theirs, they might know where it is from.  I will also try The Private World of the Last Tzar if I can find a copy.

If I'm not mistaken, that came from a New York Library scan of a book that was published in Russia.

Aha! You're exactly right:

(page 27 -- scans of the full book are available somewhere on the NYPL website)

Oh, wow, cool.  There must be some button you click to see what resolution a scan is at but I am hazy on that.  I downloaded the scan of the book page and it said 500 KB.  Is this an indication of resolution?  Thanks for any tech help.

The higher the resolution, the larger the file size will be, but I don't know exactly how that equates. (A scan with large physical dimensions will also produce a large file size, so it's hard to know for sure.)

Can anyone help me with posting a picture to the Forum not already online (like emailing to a member who will post)?  If not, it will have to wait till I get a Facebook account.

You can only post a picture which is already uploaded to the internet. However you don´t need to have specifically the facebook account. There are other commonly used servers just as www.photobucket.com or imageshack.

1906 , from what I have read, since it is a formal one.

Then it is contradiction about year formal photos - we know there are 1906 ones, with sisters too, here Aleksei looks bit older, so It s quite possible it is 1907. We agree that he is 2 - 3 years. So, formal shots were taken more often. In his 1907 photos I see different hairstyle (like a haircut he had) but since we don't know month of taking photos, it seems still unlikely.  ;-) Here is one from 1907.

My sincere apologies, I have considered that photo Ally posted really was taken in 1907. :-)

Two questions.

1) A. V's album labeled this one as "Tsarevich with cadets in Military School, 1915" (Peterhof, I think):

But I think it is incorrect. I think that one is only retouched of this one, which shows Aleksei with friend- cadets, Zehnya Makarov, and Vasya Agayev, with Grand Duchesses Olga and Tatiana, during sailings on the Dnieper River, in 1916 ) I think Grabbe's book says same:

So, what do you think, what is correct -- At Military School in 1915, or near Mogilev in 1916?

2) Date of this Aleksei's photo? 1905 or 1906?

Thanks in advance!
