2) Date of this Aleksei's photo? 1905 or 1906?

IMO, 1905.

Would there be any way to get a larger, and/or as detailed as possible, uncolorized scan of this?  Was it in one of the photo albums at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library collection?  Anyone know place and date?  Thanks!

It seems the lady in the picture is Mme. Gilliard, so presumably this comes from their album.  Does anyone know its location?  (There seems to be a copy in the book Royal Russia: The Private Albums of the Russian Imperial Family by Carol Townsend).  Thanks!

IMO, this photo was taken no earlier than 1913. Nearly all the kayaking photos I've seen of the IF were taken in the lake and canals of the Alexander Park, so it's very likely this one was as well.

At Finland, ca 1912. I think it can be found at Beinecke Library. Often labeled to be Gd Olga A, his aunt, whixh is incorrect.

the photo in reply 257:

I believe this was taken in Finland as Nena suggests.  He is wearing his full summer sailor suit which I don't recall him wearing at Tsarskoe Selo. Alexi would be more likely to wear that outfit on the Standart.

I have seen photos of two kayaks on the Standart.  They carried them on the roof of one of the deck cabins.

I took a look at the full version of the photo in Royal Russia, and I think you two are quite right -- that body of water looks far too broad to be a pond or canal in the imperial park.

Here is the descritpion that I have for the photo, and yes it is from Beinecke - page 3, album 2.

"Alexei with his nurse Alexandra Tegleva, aka Shura, aka Madame Gilliard (future wife of Pierre Gilliard) kayaking on the rocky coast of Finland, ca. 1909."

Regards,

Katya C.

Thanks, that saves me a lot of looking, but I believe the 1912 date is correct.  He looks so much older than in the pictures taken in Finland in 1909.

I agree. Vyrubova's #2 album covers 1912-1913, so summer of 1912 is probably the correct date.

I've found out that most likely photo of Aleksei on the Chair in uniform, on ice, and in the forest was taken at captivity at Tsarskoe Selo, most likely March of 1917. It comes from one of Little Pair's  albums from 1917.

Does anyone know the date or have a clearer copy of this image or any like it?  I am looking for pictures of Alexei enjoying the outdoors, hopefully age 9 or older, not wearing military uniform, and not blurry or grainy.  Thanks for help!
