Wow. It is nice screencap. I may only suspect about date/place. Could it be 1908, huh?

About second part, how about these ones:

I assume you are looking for certain 1913/even 1914 photos of Alexei outdoors. But quite hard to find one without military uniform. However, there is one of riding bicycle, than some in boat at Ap Park or so. Certain dates I can only suspect, was he 9 then. And I have one photo of him with Gibbes in carriage, labeled to be taken in 1914.

I think there is one perfect session for you - Alexei with Gilliard and Tsar in late winter/spring of 1914 at Livadia, they were laying in the snow. And the one of him with Gilliard in 1914 also, at Livadia.

Thanks.  People have shown very nice pictures and I am very picky, I know.  To further clear up exactly what I am looking for:  there are lovely pictures of him outdoors in all seasons up to age 8 or so.  Some of them are on the boat (ship/yacht).  My favorite so far is of him in his sailor suit sitting on the deck, but I'd prefer natural setting (woods, beaches, fields, etc.)  Then there are outdoor pictures of him older, but all the nice-looking ones are either in winter, wearing stiff, uncomfortable-looking uniforms (I wonder if he envied the Grand Duchesses their light, flowy dresses!) or, (at least the copies I have seen) lack very distinct detail.  I'm looking for ones with the feel of him in Finland with the watering can, age 4, or of him striking a pose in the forest, around age 6, but older, which are very good of the face but also have a special outdoor atmosphere.  (There are also many lovely indoor portraits.  My favorite is one of the 1911 series in uniform where he is looking down, but I've only ever seen a grainy, cropped version.)  I like the one of him and Joy in the stream, but it is taken at some distance and in the uniform.  Normally I wouldn't want one taken from the side or back as it doesn't show his face well, but that one in the field is much the mood for which I'm looking.  I just wondered if I could see a clearer copy, or if maybe someone took one at the same time of him walking towards rather than away from the camera.

Yes, the first one is my main contender so far.  It's one of the few in sunlight where he doesn't have his face scrunched up, not that I blame him.  I recently had some pictures taken in full sunlight without my polarizing glasses, and my eyes were streaming!

The one of him standing in the boat, do we know when and where on that?

I'm going through all the rare pictures threads and on Rare Pictures IV, page 40, is one of him at the same time, sitting down, maybe even better, but still don't like it as well as the one in the canoe with Madame Gilliard.

Actually, I have seen some taken during the right period of him in the sailor suit, they are just always inside, someone is behind him, or good setting but horrible quality.  Frustrating!

Here is a link to the closest I've found to what I'm looking for:

http://news.webshots.com/photo/2754400790038578487pAQTcc

It appears to be a screenshot.  Any ideas of how to locate a clear near-original?  Thanks!

I believe it is Peterhof bay in 1913/4.

I have the same, but just as screencap, it was taken near the Dnieper River in 1916.

I have seen those images, they are indeed in larger resolution.

Well, many photos are not clear/small resolution and such, it is acceptable, just because they were taken almost a century ago, and most of them are not in so good quality. Beinecke albums are ones very good source for all good big - qualified and large images.  And not to forget Nicholas' and Olga's albums for years 1907/8 and 1914/5/6, which TatianaZ kindly shared with us.

Thanks to TatianaZ and the newly digitized albums, I am also considering this one:

The one I really love, though, is of him and Pierre Gilliard on the Standart, where Alexei is looking away from the camera and smiling, rather than at the camera not smiling.  Am tempted to take that and simply edit the background.

Here is an example of a very nice picture although it is in profile, thoughtful expression without being uncomfortable or unhappy.  Nice clear full figure so boring background could be changed or retouched if necessary:

Thanks, Nena!  You are always the greatest for getting the best copies of pictures!  Is this collection (that this picture is from) your own?  Do you know where Empress Alexandra's album from the war years, or other albums I may not have seen, could be found online?  Thanks!

You are very welcome. Hm, that is not my photo collection. All belong to GARF, or to Beinecke albums, and many other archives. But I have been collection those for many years.  :-[
For Empress' album, see:

I hope that link works. If it doesn't, go here : http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/index.cfm , and put 'Romanov' in search box. Good luck!

Thanks, I tried both, and all were pictures I'd seen, but I have not entirely given up hope of either finding some I have not seen, or a better copy of one I have seen.  Every day I see one I hadn't before.  I didn't know there were two of these with Gilliard, very nice except just a bit dark.
