Standart, ca. 1912, posted by Laura Mabee.

Can people help direct me to any pictures of Alexei and Joy in a sitting or lying position?  The better quality, of course the better.  So far this is the only one I have found.

Tsarskoe Selo, 1915, from Alexandra's album. There is one signed as 'Alexis, 1915'. Same day:

With Count Voeikov, Tsarist Stavka and Joy:

(can be found in recently sold A.V's album, posted firstly by clockworkgirl21)

The one you've found is the best I'm aware of. Here's what else I was able to come up with:

Taken by P. Gilliard, labeled to be Tsarskoe Selo, 1917. (Not sure).

I wondered if that picture could be at Stavka, because the children used regular brass beds aboard the Standart instead of their camp cots.

Good eye - that bed really matches. But for me, it looks like a cabin, and Aleksei is, IMO, younger.

I agree with Sarushka. I think it was taken the same day of Alexei with a pillow on top of his head.

I see what you mean -- do you think it could be the imperial train? (The windows might be too close together for the train...)

Good upshot -- it might be, but sadly, never seen bigger. I'd guess it is war years, but that it is. Maybe 1914/5?

Thanks!  Any idea where to get high-quality copies of images?

IMO, books are best sources. Anyway, Sarushka would know better.  ;-).

For your own research, or to reprint?

Photo albums such as Tsar, Nicholas and Alexandra: The Family Albums, or Romanovs: Love, Power & Tragedy all have large, high quality prints of both formal and informal photographs of the imperial family.

For commercial purposes, archives like Getty Images, Alamy, or Corbis are searchable online and provide high-quality scans or prints for a fee. (Beware that Getty's captions on Romanov images are often grossly inaccurate, though.)

Thanks, they would be personal copies, perhaps to frame.  Are many of the pictures online scanned from books?

Does anyone know of a source for a good-quality copy of this image?

I think that one comes from Alexandra's personal album. I am not sure, if her album is published in any book, I only know, there is site, with scanned pages of that her album, but still with lower quality. Maybe book Jewel Album of Tsar Nicholas? Sarushka would know better.

Also, for good - quality scanned photos, I think Beinecke Library gives many of them from A. Vyrubova's personal albums, also, Jamd.
