Those are lovely photos, and the first I've seen of Michael with all his brother's children. Could he be wearing the Cross of St. George he was given in 1915?

With Tatiana and ?

Lovely photos!

Is the first one from 1914? Tatiana's fringe doesn't quite look like her 1913 wig.

I don't recognise the man in the second. The girls might be wearing be wearing the same coats that Olga and Anastasia wore in Germany in 1910.

Actually Karen, I'm going to place the first one at 1916. Reason being that it appears to be from the same photoshoot as those pictures of the GDs aboard the Standart (or was it another vessel?). They were posted a few months ago on here and they appear to be dressed in the same outfits. I'd say early 1916 if I had to wager a guess. Anastasia, in particular, looks a bit old here for the 13-ish year old in those classic 1914 formal photos.

They seem to be wearing the same outfits in these, but I don't think they're from the same day--their blouses differ somewhat in the three photos. It's hard to tell though since they have their sweaters buttoned up in some and partially unbuttoned in others.

Edubs31, I don't think it's likely that they are from 1916--Marie's hair is down for one thing--she "came out" in 1915 so it would have been up by that point. I also think that Anastasia looks too young for it to be 1916. 1914 seems more appropriate to me.

I also think it's more likely to be 1914.

Fair enough. I was basing it off of what I thought I remember those similar pictures having been dated as 1916.

Good point about Marie's hair being down. Anastasia does look a little older than 13 here, but I guess the evidence suggests otherwise.

Anyway, fantastic and lovely photo of the four of them...thanks for posting!

It can't be spring, since the war started in July /early August.(OT are wearing nurse uniforms)
It could be late summer or even fall of 1914. Also, Maria started wearing her hair down in first half of 1914. There is photo of Tsar and Heir taken at the AP balcony from AF 's album labeled as 1915, and it is very similar to those two with GD Michael. But I' d also say 1914.

Another wonderful photo! At first I wished it was larger so I could see Maria's expression better, then I noticed how casually she is standing.

Does anyone know where new rare photos like this come from? I presume they're from Russian archives, but I started wondering if there are Russian forums or blogs where there might be more information about the sources. Are they scanned by historians or can ordinary people interested in the Romanovs get access to their albums?
