Annie your Anastasia’s painting is absolutely wonderful, and Holly thank you for those amazing pictures I’m guessing the colored parts were colored by Anastasia herself and thank you RealAnastasia for your images.

Now that we are with close-ups... here is one of Anastasia (quite big by the way) from the 1904 Imperial Family's photo: =)

Oh, that is just utterly darling! So cute! You should post close-ups of each girl from that photograph!  :D

The photographs taken on this day in Peterhof of the girls has a haunting quality to it, I suppose do to the low lighting.

I love those too... That 2nd one is new to me! Thanks! I think the lens was too wide open for the lighting  and so one gets this super high contrast images.

Re Posting # 167:  A striking and revealing photo as always, showing the genetic input in the Emperor from the Dowager Empress Marie, height-wise.  The Emperor keenly felt this and once remarked (paraphrasing, but perhaps direct, as I remember), about his military "taking orders from a dwarf."  The Romanov men who held the genetic traits of the Emperor Alexander III's side of the family, were known for their height, though I rather suspect that the Grand Duke Nicholas N. (Jr.) was an exception even to them.    AP.

Indeed AP, Grand Duke Nicholas N.  could dwarf a horse much less a man! What is interesting is we bring  a camera to eye level in order to aim it...but back then, one looked down to the top of the camera and so its lens  was  at waist level. This  would make Grand Duke Nicholas N. seem even bigger in relation to the Tsar.  I believe that is Uncle Ernie speaking to AN , but someone more knowledgeable will know

True!  There is also another famous (comparison) photo of the two: one where they are standing clad in military greatcoats, facing/semi-facing the camera and the length of the Grand Duke's coat is utterly remarkable.  I remember a quote from a mourner/visitor, who viewed the body of the Grand Duke in death in exile in France. He remarked, " His hands were so "BIG!"  Regards,  AP.

That photo was occasionally retouched to make the height difference less striking. If I can find both versions, I'll post them.
