BlessOTMA, it is quite possible, although I cannot see the bow on Anastasia's head... perhaps she pulled it off ! However, it does make sense that they were taken at the same time because, as I am sure you know, it is very hard to keep young children interested in having their pictures taken for a long time.

Yeah I second that having recently stumbled across this photo as well. They're just magic together!

With do respect to TMA though I think you can crop in just on Olga and the baby and it would make for a wonderful picture. I love how she looks and the expression on her face gazing at little Alexei. Like a doting yet mature and reassuring smile that you'd expect to see from a mother (or at least an older than 9-ish year old girl). As if she's thinking something along the lines of, "I got this handled...leave the baby boy caretaker stuff to me!" lol.

I don't know, maybe I'm reading a little bit too much into it...but Olga shines bright here! Not that she doesn't normally of course :-)

 A sweet picture, indeed, but in this case Anastasia seems bigger than a three-year old, and in a way possibly as big as, or bigger than her sisters especially Marie andTatiana. Just an oddity of this pose and their positions, I guess.

Good call! It's hard to see Tatiana but I agree Anastasia doesn't at all look any younger than Marie...much less a full two years younger. I think that speaks more to Mashka's look at the time. Round little princess face still full of baby fat that makes her come off looking as young as her little sister.

I agree it's kind of a fluke enhanced by their positioning and it wouldn't be long before Maria grew into that flawless Russian beauty...

Also am I the only one who sees a bit of Anna Anderson in this obstructed shot of Anastasia? Not fanning any impostor flames, just saying...

I think the Imp might be standing on the sofa as the others sit...that would help her look as big! It's nice to have the three poses from this photo secession together.

I strongly believe Anastasia's portrait by von Kaulbach is this:


a small miniature base off the actually portrait

as you can see on the Faberge like flower with miniatures of the Imperial children 1904/5,


the elder girls portraits can be clearly see here and match


 it would have make sense. Did anyone else thought so?

good detective work! I have this enlargement from Alix's drawing room at AP that shows a similar portait, though Imp seems to be smiling more here . von Kaulbach had a tremendous  ability to capture thier personalities and it's touching Alix took these portaits with her when she left AP

I think the author of this had a very sharp sight (unlike me, since my eye specialist had to change my lenses with stronger ones, ugh)

I'm not convinced that Tatiana is the one portrayed wearing the sailor cap, it is more to the likeness of Olga. However, the feathery hat that is supposedly Tatiana doesn't resemble her much either. But of course, it wouldn't make sense to not have a portrait of Tatiana when all the girls have one made. It would be nice to have the original picture taken of the girls to compare with the portraits.
