Indeed, they did have big feet! It's been commented on before on these forums. Their feet were especially big when you think about how in 1900, the average woman's shoe size was a 4. Today it's 8. I wouldn't be surprised of OTMA were closer to today's average.

And to avoid confusion, I used American shoe sizes.

Good call Tim. Bunions to be exact. Never heard about her needing a special shoe but I guess it's possible. I also never noticed the size of their feet and will have to pay better attention the next time I see them in photos.

If you look closely at some of the tennis pictures, you'll see Anastasia's wearing sandals rather than tennis shoes. There's a dark pair that's very easy to spot -- once you see them, you'll wonder why you never noticed before -- and a light pair that's pretty hard to see against her white stockings. You have to look for the buckles. If the sandals are any indication, the problem doesn't seem to have developed until around 1913-14.

Alexandra had large feet as well, from what I can tell from pictures.

Yep. It's something Peter Kurth mentioned a while back. Otherwise I don't know whether I would have made that connection, either.

Someone posted the photo below on the "Romanov Children"'s Facebook page--it was entirely new to me, so I thought I would share it.



This one clearly relates to the other photo of Anastasia wearing false teeth--she has the same blouse on and even has the flower with her:



More interestingly, she is seated in Olga and Tatiana's bedroom (see http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y285/sarahelizabethii/Romanov/Alexander%20Palace/OlgaTatianasbedroomwatercolor2.jpg). While it is certainly possible that she moved into the other room, this photo seems to indicate that it is Olga who is sleeping in the background, not Marie.
