Hi everybody!

Has a date been set yet for the burial of the Heir and G.D. Maria?  I haven't been able to find any information on the subject.

Many thanks in advance!

I don't have any information. But good question.

Maybe when all test are done. We know those remains were/weren't agreed by Church, by some people, by even Romanov relatives, by Russian people, etc. Many factors take parts.

The tests have been completed. The scientists are scheduled to meet with church officials in July to present their case on the bones being accepted as the family. They were unable to determine if the last daughter found burned was Maria or Anastasia and do not name her.

It was said Maria to be, I know tests are finished, but noticed, there are many publications of confirming to be Maria and Aleksei, just by one test done. Anyway, thanks, Lemur for that info.  ;-)

ahh, I believe it is Maria - as most do, I think. But that is not important, they all are accounted fo and in the end will rest as one.

I am curious for the date too, but already am glad the mystery is out of the way.

Wasn't it said that none of the original bodies found were either young enough nor short enough to be Anastasia, but one of them, possibly Maria, was buried under her name?  If so, Anastasia will have to be buried under Maria's name.  Also, were there enough remains of the girls believed to be "the smaller pair" or enough difference in DNA to be sure they amount to two Grand Duchesses and not dismembered remains of one?

Depends on which Exhumation team. Russian claimed Maria is missing, American team claimed for Anastasia.

Quote
The Americans concluded Body No. 5 was the youngest of the remains, yet extrapolated her height at 67.5 inches, or 5 foot 7½ inches. Maples said this was too tall to be Anastasia, therefore he attributed these remains to Maria Nicolaievna. The Russians however believed these remains were tall enough to be Tatiana.
According to the Americans Body No. 6's development was placed between Nos. 3 & 5. They labeled her as Tatiana Nicolaievna. The Russians however, labeled this body as Anastasia.

IMO the media are simply presuming the female remains are Maria based on the fact that one set of remains has already been buried under Anastasia's name. (Makes a sticky situation easier for journalists...)

Where are they buried? Near the rest of the family, too?

Amazing colored fotos  by the most wonderful Yelena Aleksandrovna. Endless thank you very much!

I didn't heard about the burial of Alexei and Maria (or Anastasia), anyone know if the funeral had already taken place or not?...however, I suppose that they will buried exactly with the rest of the family in the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul.

There are already tombstones with their names.

Technically, it will be no problem.  There is still plenty of room in their "vault" in the floor of that particular chapel.  The coffins are all quite small.  The last time I was there, the exposed flooring around the edges of the tomb and superstructure of the tomb proper were of faux marble (wood) because of the expense.  I do not believe that real marble has yet replaced the wood.  At the time I was there, you could approach and touch the tomb, leave flowers/small icons, etc.  Now I hear that the room is roped off for viewing from an open door.    AP

What I have been told is that there are four distinctly different sets of nuclear DNA , one for each grand duchess. Unfortunately, due to the way their remains were handled by the Bolsheviks, we will never know which one was in the other grave. All had matching mtDNA and all were determined to be the offspring of Nicholas and Alexandra.

So will there be a public burial of the remains of Maria and Aleksei? (if they havent been buried already) Or is it just going to be a private and simple burial?

IMO, since the memorial plaques are already on the walls of the chapel and space is available in the vault, it will be a simple "private" burial (as it should be).    AP
