Alexei's Dates

It's been pointed out that Alexei's birthdate varies depending on whether the Eastern or Western calendar is used.  Is there also a variant death date, and can someone post both sets of dates?  Thanks.

Thanks, although somehow I thought it was the other way around, as, at least this year, Orthodox Easter was a week after Western Easter.

Usually the old style (eastern) date is printed before the new style (western). Mariia listed them the other way around, so perhaps that's what's confused you.

For dates in the 20th and 21st centuries the Julian (orthodox; eastern; old style) calendar is 13 days behind the Gregorian (western; new style) calendar. In the 19th century the Orthodox calendar was only 12 days behind.

Sarushka is correct, in 19th century difference was 12 days. Also, Orthodox Churches still uses old style of calendars when celebrate holidays.

Christmas is a fixed date every year, but Easter is a moveable feast determined by the lunisolar calendar. Because the date is calculated according to the cycles of the moon, the difference between Easter dates on the two calendars varies from year to year. Next year, Western and Orthodox Easter will fall on the same day. There's an explanation and chart of the dates here.

Orthodox Easter comes after the spring equinox according to  the Julian (Old) Calendar, on the first Sunday after the first full moon, after the Jewish Passover. That is why there is varience in the dates. Sometimes Easter can fall in May (by the Gregorian (New) calendar).
