On the subject of photos, black and white or sepia are SO much more flattering to people than colour! I have a fair complexion and blonde hair, and in the few black and white photos I have of myself I look much nicer (actually they are sepia). Colour photos make me look bland and washed out.
I think there is something almost romantic about sepia or black and white, the subject looks far more appealing.

You couldn't be more right. I have several photos from various trips to a period photo parlour, with all of us dressed in either Civil War garb or 1920s gangster clothing, and I look at myself in them and think, 'Good God! Why don't I normally look that stunning?' Because they're sepia in tone, they really do flatter, and there's certainly something romantic about them. I was looking again at the pictures of me in black-and-white, comparing them to the colour versions, and I was amazed at how much better the black-and-white ones make me look...

Sometimes it's hard for me to tell Tatiana and Alix apart!

Well, for me, sometimes the girls looks more like their mother, and sometimes like their father. I know people who said that I'm the spitting image of my father, and others of my mother...

And yes; Anastasia and Tatiana are very close in facial features, as Olga and Maria were.

I believe that Tatiana's exoctic features were from her father's side. The rest of her was a mix. She looked so much like her aunt Xzenia. I believe that these looks go back to the dowager empress Marie. Anastasia resembled her father's side most, especially her aunt Olga. I think these looks come from Alexander III.  Grand Duchess Olga N. was both, a perfect mix. Tsarvitch Alexei is hard to judge.. he was so young, but more than likely both with more of his mother's side.Grand Duchess Marie's colouring and facial features seem to come from her mother, but otherwise she takes squarely after the Romanovs. Indeed, Nicholas and Alexandra had beautiful children. Otma were beauties, every last one, in every photo from early childhood to young adulthood. The photos just blow you away. Tsarvitch Alexei was such a cute little boy!

Please forgive me, but I've been reading from many posters, about Tatiana or the other girls weight loss.
I've seen many perspectives, but I wonder if anyone has brought up this point.

Did any of the IF members have knowledge of someone close to the family being killed, etc., from early incarceration to their last days?

Also, could they from their locations of imprisonment, hear actual shooting going around them?

If so, this alone would raise alarm to anyone, and would certainly produce the worst of outcomes both mentally, and physically.  Thank you for any input of sharing.

Tatiana Nikolaevna resembles Alexei Nikolaevich!

The two siblings did share their mother's coloring and eye colour, but their jaws are different than that of the Empress.

Tatiana Nikolaevna resembles Alexei Nikolaevich!  Just compare pictures of the two of them when they were ill or look at the last known picture of the two of them together, and you'll see what I mean.

Yes, Tatiana and Alexei did resemble each other. I think they may have had the closest resemblance of all the siblings. As I posted, it is hard to tell which one of his parents Tsarvitch Alexei resembled. I stand where I stood before on the origin of Tatiana's looks.

Yeah I agree that Olga looks the most like Alix. But I think Marie looks the most like Nicholas, the elegant square face ang big eyes.

I've got to disagree with most of you and say that Tatiana, of all the children, looks most like her mother.  That nose, that dark look (the inability to smile in a lot of photos) and the profile.  They all are deffinitely borrowed from Alix.

 I think Tatiana's colouring resembled her mother. I have heard that said. But othwerwise, doesn't she resemble Nicholas's side of the family, and perhaps her cousin Princess Irina Alexandrovna, who was the daughter of Grand Duchess Xzenia? I think this so much, I might start a thread on it.

I think that Anastasia and Tatiana more ressembled her mother : Anastasia when she was a little girl and Tatiana as an adult. But Tatiana has her father's eyes and paternal grandmother's gracefulness. Olga was the portrait of her aunt Olga Alexandrovna and Maria and Alexei ressembled their grandfather Alexander III.

 I think that Anastasia,Tatiana and Alexei share most of their mother's features. To me they favor Alix. Tatiana has her mother's face,skinny,tall and stunning figure like Alix when she was in her 20's and 30's. Anastasia has Alix's thin and skinny nose,wonderful blue eyes,and gorgous hair. Alexei has her eyes,face and nose he defantly takes after his mother. He favors Nicholas somewhat but seems to favor Alix the most.

As for Olga and Maria they share their fathers features mostly. Olga has his small short nose refered to "pug", eyes, wide face and auburn-blonde hair and his height. Maria she was a famous beauty in the family ,she has Nicholas's big blue eyes(known as "saucers" and light brunette hair with golden highlights. Some of their features can not always come from their mother and father but uncle,aunt, grandmother and grandpa. Like Tatiana dark brown eyes and brunette hair it probaly came from Nicholas relatives.

I actually think that Olga looks the most like Alix. Just in some photos, she has expressions on her face and are, Alix I think and you can totally tell that they are mother/daughter. Especially when she has her hair up.

It is interesting. I tend to think that none of the daughters actually look like Alix in the face.
