Court Gown of Alexandra Fyodorovna.

Edited by Alixz on 04/22/2009  This may have been the Court Dress of Grand Duchess Xenia as blue was purported to be her chosen color.

Detail on Olga Alexandrovna's gown. It appears she is wearing Maria Fyodorovna's BIG diamond necklace.

I've seen some photos of OTMA's court gowns as children where they look rather silvery with a hint of purple.

Wonderful pictures Olya!  I love the blue court dress of Af with the superb gold embroidery!
DOMOVOII, amethyts would be great with that orange dress - huge deep purple ones from Siberia, fringed with diamonds, like Lady Londonderry's!

Olga do you mean the necklace with the pendant drops?  Isn't that the regalia necklace that all Romanov brides wore on their wedding days?  MF seems to have had an especial fondness for that piece, as there are many images of her wearing it - well who wouldn't, considering the size of the diamonds?!

Actually, the design was fairly common and it seems to me that HIH  received one such as a wedding gift.  Certainly, the only time that most of the Grand Duchess's wore the large necklace from the Imperial Treasury was as part of their wedding regalia.

This one is somewhat smaller.

I am so glad that I found others that love this dress! I hope to have it made for my wedding in the future. I hope you have all been to this site:
http://www.countalexander.com/

There are replicas of Royal jewels including Russian pieces.

If anyone has a pattern for the court dress or a sketch, please, keep me informed and I will do the same.

A curtsy to all,
Jae Tagnon

Court Gown of Alexandra Fyodorovna.

Again, this dress may have belonged to Xenia Alexandrovna

Blue is my favorite color.  But I must say I love this table in this picture. That's one good thing about the Hermitage website,I can zoom in on the dress and the table. :)

On the Hermitage website the dress is identified as belonging to Alix.
It really is a stunning example of court dress and the embroidery is superb.  I imagine that the dress and train must have been very heavy - it is composed of silk velvet, silk satin and the embroidery is gold bullion thread (which in itself adds to the weight of the costume).  The colour is lovely.

I'd say amethysts and rubies for Maria Pavlovna's orange gown.

I'm not too keen on the gold embroidery for the blue gown of Alexandra Fyodorovna. It seems to be too heavy. Maybe silver? But the embroidery itself is stunning.
