Was she so bad to her? She was one of the leading anti-Katia figures at the Court, leading to strain between her husband and his father. I never read in any of the bios of MF that she had a bad relationship with her mother-in-law.

Empress Marie was quite a retiring but reserved figure, Dagmar did fret in not making a good impression on her.  ???

Actually Maria F. was not bad to Maria A. But at the same time they did not get along very well, MF respected MA but the two were not close. In a recent Russian bio on MF there are some lines on this fact.

Marie Coburg in her letters told Missy that once after her mother died, she was sorting through her mother's diary. She found out that Empress Marie was actually quite impressed by Dagmar when she first came to Russia. When Marie Coburg told Dagmar about it, she was quite surprised since she never knew that.  :)

Tsarina Marie Alexandrovna was away a time as well due to her ill-health. There was no animosity between her and her daughter-in-law Maria Feodorovna; quite the contrary.

Well...But it is well known that Empress Marie was quite reserved, and Dagmar was eagar not to put a foot wrong.  ;)

How close was Marie to her danish family? I don't have a quite clear picture on how she felt about her mother or father. Or just anyone in her family.
