Guess what I found in Reader's Digest?
« on: April 30, 2009, 01:04:31 AM »
I was at my friend's house, snooping in their bookcase.   I love books.   When I saw a few old Reader's Digests, pulling one out I looked at the content cover (why don't they still have them?) and there on page 93 was a story titled "The Boy who dreamed of a palace."

I was thinking "OMG it can't be Bob A's story?" So I flipped it to the page and yes it was Bob's story.    It was a good read and although it was published in 1993, I felt sadden that at the time of the story.  The goverment agreed to restore the AP and today it is still in shambles.

Just thought I let you guys know about my find.

Thanks,

BUT, this is another, frustrating reminder that people here don't read the main AP site...That article is ON the main website. Click that link just above...

Sorry FA, but I was just excited to see the article in a magazine and wanted to share it with you all.  I already knew about the link.  It's the fact that I have the actual article in a book dating from 1993, instead of it being on the internet.  I want to scan the article to share with you guys, but whats the point when I get slammed by people like you.

This forum is getting lame and I only come on here every now and then.     I wrote a story/fanfiction and only 3 people acknowledged it, people have looked at it but have not left a comment, it would be nice if some of you people would comment,  I don't care if you thought it was dribble.   Just say that you read it and a thank you would go a long way.

It seems the flavour of these past few weeks is colored photos,  I acknowledge your hard work that you have put in them, but doesn't writing count?  Even though it took me about two hours to write a short story (writing a short story is hard work), it seems fanfiction/poetry is being overlooked for pretty pictures.

Sorry for my rants but FA you have fraustrated me.   It was just a simple OMG I found something exciting that I want to share even though I have seen the link.   You don't have to write *sarcastic tone* "Fraustrating reminder that people don't read the main AP site."  Yes I have seen the AP site so many times over the past 10 years.   It's the fact I have the written article in the actual magazine.

You do let people down FA truely you do.  Hey there was even a thread on IMDB "Anastasia" Page condoning your bossy ways.   Not many people like your tones of posts FA.  I know very well I am not the only one.  (Yes I know I rant in my posts I acknowledge that and am open to say it).

Well I wouldn't mind seeing a scan, rosie. I know the article is online and that is where I read it first, but it is always nice to see the orginal thing in the original book/ magazine etc.

Thanks Tom,  that is what I was hoping someone would say.   We have seen the article before but to have the actual magazine is different on a whole new level.

I agree, it's like seeing a film at the cinema or seeing it on Youtube, sometimes they just don't compare! Also I too have noticed the popularity coloured photos. I mean these works are good, and much better  than anything I could do, but at heart I preffer orginal writing's.

I have to say yes I respect your colored pics,  but there is so much colored pics one can take.   I love to see people's imaginations and fantasies in writing weither fiction or poems.   We need more of these!   I am sure there is plenty of good writers out there.

Hey, Rosieposie...Don't be sad. Time to time I'm also dissapointed with people who slams your down when you believes you are coming with a great finding. As I've said more than once, It's impossible to read everything it's online...even in this website. I've read a lot of articles from the main page of the website, but not all of them. I knew the article you've fond in Reader Digest IS online...but what's the matter? You could have posted it scanned. It's a well thing to have the article in two different formats.

I'm happy you are in this forum , and I read your messages with great pleasure.

Since I'm not new at history forums (not only this one) and I'm used to them. You must take them as they are. Sometime ago, I used to get angry and discussed when I was badly treated ; today I don't get involved in any discussion that I don't want to and I'm relaxed an happy for taken from here a lot of the good things it has. The info and the photos are wonderful, and I think you wouldn't find them anywhere else. Enjoy this site and don't let little things would ruin your day happiness.

I also agree with you in another important point: pics and colored pics are great to see, but they cannot be the only thing that is posted in an historian forum. I love them and collect all that I can collect, but there's also true that nowadays, the pics people is posting are always the same. Of course, Romanov photos are not eternal; someday there will be and end for new photos. However, I think it should be nice to post the lesser knew rather than the ones that all of us had seen hundred of times.

I accept that I cannot make a lot of critics about it, since I do not post photos, nor have any program to colour them, but it is not for I dont want to post photos, but for I do not have a lot of money to spend in so expensive  pic's book . If I could do it, I should purchase them , tough.  ;)
