New for me!  :)...I can recognize the portrait that is on the wall, it's the portrait of Alexander III in Danish uniform at Fredensborg Palace, painted by Valentin Serov.

That one was once posted (mean, painted one, if I am not wrong, by Kmerov) and I think it can be taken ca. 1910.

I love post #248 by RomanovFan4Ever.  On the roof top in Moscow.

I wonder if anyone ever goes up to that spot anymore, of if they even know where it is located?

Alixz and Marty, these are very interesting questions which have intrigued me for quite some time too, so I studied various pictures of the Kremlin at www.kreml.ru . This site conveniently offers a map of the Kremlin (http://www.kreml.ru/en/main/kremlin/) and many detailed pictures of various buildings in the old and present days.

I think Nicholas and Alexandra were standing on the roof of the Grand Kremlin Palace, the picture taken facing north.
The church at the left could be the Church of Our Lady's Nativity (http://www.kreml.ru/en/main/kremlin/buildings/Bogorodisty_Senyah/);
to the right of the church one sees the Fun Palace at the Kremlin (http://www.kreml.ru/en/main/kremlin/buildings/Poteshniy_dvorest/);
the building with the white pillar-like elements seen immediately to the left of Nicholas may be a building on Manege Street outside the Kremlin;
the high tower looks like the Trinity Tower (http://www.kreml.ru/en/main/kremlin/towers/Troitskaya/) at the Alexander Park side of the Kremlin;
and at Alix's right one sees the top of the southern facade of the Terem Palace (http://www.kreml.ru/en/main/kremlin/buildings/Teremnoy_dvorets/).
