It was a movie I liked but dreaded, too.  The whole idea that a well-intentioned doctor gradually becomes more and more pulled into the magnetic force of the downfall of the IF -- too much like my interest in Nicholas and his family!  And the twist at the end, the patient well, the doctor...well, I don't want to give it away....

I watched this on frozentears.org today and really liked it even though, to me, a couple of things didn't ring true. I can't see Alix berating Nicholas like she did, especially in front of Alexei. And when they were discussing the "scar" on the doctor's head, they said Nicholas, on his Grand Tour, attempted to urinate in a Japanese temple and that's why he was attacked. I was like, "no way!" I can't see Nicholas ever doing something so crass - he was a gentleman through and through, even during his "playa" days.

I just watched this movie for the second time recently. I still don't know what to make of it. As a general release feature film it probably isn't too bad . The overall portrayal of the IF's captivity is pretty accurate. Still, I 'm disappointed. I have an unrealistic expectation of too much accuracy or near perfection in treatments of them and the events of their lives because of my own  pretty extensive knowledge of them. Mentally, for me it's easy to get annoyed by some otherwise trivial inaccuracy which most viewers wouldn't know or even care about.
There are drawbacks to being a Romanov history nerd!

Also, I still don't really get the whole thing with the missing little girl. Finally, I gotta say, Malcolm McD was very good.

I thought it was a very good film except the use of the Catherine Palace, which really did bug me, and the portrayal of Alexandra. Other than that it is an engrossing film.
